I don't know the best place for this thread, so I hope the mods will move it if they feel there is a better place. I am going to be in Raton, New Mexico at the Whitington Center for a week of training in early October. I am looking for a local knife maker to visit and pick up a blade from during my down time. If anyone knows of any makers within an hour or so of Raton please let me know.

Thanks

I live in Raton, New Mexico. Welcome! Be sure to check out the ruins of Van Houten, old coal mines and ghost town, while you're out at the NRA center.

Sorry, I don't know of any local knifemakers off-hand. Heard of a few over the years but can't remember names. And I'm reasonably sure that none of them have showrooms around here.

Are you coming through Santa Fe? Santa Fe Stoneworks is a nice place to stop.

* There was a well-known maker in Eagle Nest. Don't recall the gentleman's name, and I have no idea if he's still around the area.

If you're down southeast NM or in the Rio Grande valley, there are a few in those areas.

Hmmm... Just learned that Michael Walker lives in Taos, and this gallery has a few items of his listed. http://www.artifexgallery.com/michaelknives.html

Just last month someone at work was telling me about a maker east of town. I think this is the same, east of Raton near Trinchera.
