Sometime when you are not too busy, would you please ask what the mark that we call the "New Mexico" really means?

Maybe it has something to do crop circles...

Looks like something from High School chemistry class.

Oxygen molecuele kami. He and his brother Hydrogen have just started at Birghorkha.

It's the double bonds...

I was thinking it had something to do with the year or passage of some observance.

Here is what a website had to say about the New Mexico flag.

The yellow field and red symbol colors are the colors of Spain. First brought to New Mexico by Spanish explorers in 1540. On New Mexico's flag we see a red sun with rays streching out from it. There are four groups of rays with four rays in each group. This is an ancient sun symbol of a Native American people called the Zia. The Zia believed that the giver of all good gave them gifts in groups of four. These gifts are:

1. The four directions - north, east, south and west.
2. The four seasons - spring, summer, fall and winter.
3. The day - sunrise, noon, evening and night.
4. Life itself - childhood, youth, middle years and old age.
5. All of these are bound by a circle of life and love, without a beginning or end.

I find it very interesting how the meaning of symbols changes with the culture and education of the viewer. To most Americans the flyflot is a swastika. A Maltese cross, a german or templar symbol.

I used to mark many of my belongings (especially anything I made for myself_ with a Cross constructed with equal length arms, the 2nd and fourth quandrants closed by a line, but then some one else started claiming it was some ancient symbol for a scribe, that isnt' me. So now I just use my initials, boring huh?

Good stuff, 45.

When I was younger, I used to wonder why many ancient symbols were so angular...then as a Boy Scout, I tried my hand at carving. It all made sense at that point.

No symbol for me as of yet. I was looking at the Star of David but someone beat me to it. (A few people, actually, if you count that other David.) I'd never really given it a lot of thought, actually, but thanks largely to you folks here I've begun to try my hand at leatherworking. My third and fourth attempts actually turned out usable. :) A symbol to put on them would be neat.

I haven't seen this new symbol in the flesh as of yet. What is it appearing on? Specific models, or as a kami mark, or just in general?

btt...sooner or later, Yangdu will see it and get an answer for us. I'll just keep floating it until then.

:D

A Park Service pamphlet on the ndn's of the Southwest say the sign is for the Sun, and denotes happiness.

I sent Yangdu an email with a pic of the New Mexico State Flag and a link to our thread.
We'll see if our favorite Aunt has time to answer our little question now during the midst of all her other duties.

Hey! If you want something done ask a busy person to do it. That way you know it'll be accomplished. :p ;) :D
