I just got a mitutoyo micrometer that is electronic. it has a model number 293-721, it is the kind that connect to the computer. does any one know where i can get a manual, cable, softwhere. also i payed $50 for it, i hope i did not pay to much. but its super nice because its accurate to .00005" and has a digital read out. here is a picture of it. let me know what you think and if this is a good one. also this has the Carbide-tipped measuring faces, this model is also sealed from dust and water which is sweet.

That is a nice mic.I'm sure it will function perfectly without "manual, cable, & software. May I ask what you plan on doing with the software or why you want to go with the PC hook-up ??

well realy just to have it, but it would be nice to have so if i was testing the thickness on a bunch of spots on a blade the computer would keep track so i would no need to wright the numbers down. im goingto use it for my folders so i can keep everything exact.

That's a fine micrometer! Forget about the data collection cable. You would have to have a database program that had a cell to import the data to, for it to be useful. Just use it in good health.

You'll grow tired of trying to keep track of all that info, more trouble than it's worth really. That mic' is really used for Statistical Process Control in an inspection department to keep track of thousands of measurements on production parts. Great mic' though and a great price too!!

I have one from the same manufacturer that is very similiar. The instruction manual doesn't have too much in it that you won't already know if you use precision measuring tools already. That Being said, if you want a copy, I bet you could email mitutoyo and they would send you one. If that doesn't work, email me, and I will scan mine in and email it to you. Great mic.

side note: Keldog, that is an elkhound in your avatar unless I am mistaken. I have one myself, they are great dogs with a huge amount of "personality". Just thought I would say "I like your pup"

well i must say i onley payed 15 bucks for it, but i did trade a real old gps that i got new in 1998 for 99 bucks from radio shack. so realy i got a supper deal because i know i could not have goten very much for the gps if i sold it. Man the lcd read out is super nice, i have an old micrometer where you just look at the numbers on the side and see what size it is. i seames very very acurate in the sence i can close it all the way and reset the lcd then open it all the way up to 1" and close it back down and it will read 0.00000. i know most cheep Os will read like .0001 or somthing like that but not this baby it must have been pricy when it came out.

I have a Starrett hi-precision mic accurate to 50 millionths (.000050) but I must say that real accuracy comes with practice and not to overtighten. You got a good deal man, enjoy that one. The lcd will spoil you too! Now that everyone knows you have this great equipment you will be expected to produce the tightest tolerance knives out there!!

A nice one indeed. I paid a list of $100 for IP55 version just few months ago. Well worth it. Treat it with care, be careful with anvils - the edge is razor sharp.

Use racheting knob to get a read-out, don't overtighten .

And build a proper storage box for this gem. Some exotic hardwood, velvet
interior. Miniature built-in LED that will shine the light onto your prized posession when you open the box :)

i have some large chuncks of cocobolo wool and some black swade leather. along with the light yo could have a noise maker that playes a tune like the 2001 space oddecy.
