New Microtech CT w/ Scratch

I bought a second hand Combat Troodon Bowie that was listed as BNIB but it had slight wear on clip and a really hard to see thin scratch on the blade. Would you all be pissed if you received a BNIB listed knife with wear.

That depends....

I have seen (and own) several knives that were absolutely new, as they were purchased from a dealer or manufacturer and had some cosmetic defects. Stuff happens in shipping, things rub and wear and get jostled around.

If you bought this from an individual, he may have received it that way too. Hard to say. If it truly is a "really hard to see thin scratch", then perhaps the first owner didn't see it.

However, I never consider anything NIB if it is sold by an individual. Chances are they have at least opened and closed it a few times.

If this knife is a user, it wouldn't bother me at all assuming there are no other functional or major cosmetic flaws.

Maybe if I was gonna put it in a display case and handle it with silk gloves it would irk me, but I’d probably just put it in my pocket and live my life.

Depends what you paid vs what you feel a NIB would go for. If the savings is fair and this is an edc/user, it's fine. I'd this was an investment piece, not so much.

It's easy to get anal about scratches and whatnot when it comes to more expensive knives. My brand new Combat Troodon has a tiny stain in the fuller of m390 blade, and it was bought new from a LKS. Could I return it? Maybe. Could I polish it out with some toothpaste? Most likely. However, this is an EDC. I use it daily and expect some marks and scratches.

The CT line up is certainly up to the job

No I would not be pissed. BNIB is not NIB. There are varying degrees of how different people would grade a knife.

Personally, if I bought it to use I wouldn’t worry about it one bit. The marks would just add to the menagerie of scuffs I’d put on it anyway.

If you bought it to be pristine and perfect and put it in a safe or on a shelf, you should’ve bought absolutely new from an authorized dealer (and paid full price).
