The Military has been praised often enough on this forum and certainly doesn't need my endorsement, but I can't help adding my few cents worth (maybe I just like seeing myself in print
). I was given an old model Military (plain edge) and a full-size Wegner (also plain edge) several months ago. My intitial impression was that the Military was just too large to carry and it was retired to the back of the drawer in favour of the Wegner. Besides I really liked the ergonomics and heft of the Wegner. I don't need to carry a large folder very often, but when the occassion arose I picked up the Wegner.
However a week or so ago, just as an experiment, I shoved the Military in my jean's pocket. What a surprise, it was so comfortable to carry, I forgot it was there until it was needed. Since then I've been using the Military more and more and have come to really appreciate the subtleties of this great design. The flat grind and relatively thin point make it especially useful for food preparation (the most common use for my camp knives) and the CPM440V steel takes the expected amazing edge. That large handle allows for a range of hand positions and I really like being able to choke up on the blade using the choil. The light weight and thin profile make it so easy to carry, I can clip it IWB of shorts or trackies and forget about it (couldn't do that with the Wegner). This really is a superb design for a utility folder. Guess I'm going to have to stand up and be counted as a Military man
.
My only problem now is trying to decide if I *need* the new model and if so should I stick with the plain edge or go serrated (or just get one of each
).
Hats off to Sal and the crew, the Military is the epitome of the design philosophy "form follows function"

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.
