Just received a new Benchmade 705BT and an 886S in the mail today and I'm all smiles. I can see why everyone's so in love with the mini-axis. it is a solid knife and perfect for everyday carry. fit and finish were also excellent and the coated blade was decently sharp. As for the action, it didn't seem as crisp as my trusty BM 720SBT. the Pardue seems to be much smoother and snaps open and shut in a more positive fashion. Is this common with the 705 or do I just have to break it in a bit?
As for the bluestar, I was pleasantly surprised with this knife. I really liked the size and the fit and finish were also excellent. It could have been sharper out of the box but a few swipes on the spyderco sharpeners took care of that. It seems that the bluestar is overshadowed by the axis models but I actully like the bluestar the best. To me, it just looks better and feels great to hold while sitting in front of the TV watching football or whatever. Pity it doesn't get more discussion.
Well, my Benchmade binge seems to have settled a bit, so what manufacturer should I jump to next? (I tend go in cycles between different brands). I saw the pictures of the Spyderco Meercat. Hmmm...

Lube that 705 and toy with it. It'll be smooth as butter.

I've always liked the looks of the Blue Star. Did you get a good deal? If so, where? I'm ready for that one.

Thanks Shmackey, toying with the 705 as I type.
regarding the bluestar, I picked it up on an e-bay auction for $65 plus $5 shipping to Hawaii which I thought was a pretty good price.(the guy I bought it from was "azblades". He listed it as an 886S but the picture looked like a coated blade. When I got the knife, it was satin finished but that's what I had wanted anyway when I placed the bid). As I mentioned previously, there doesn't seem to be much interest in this knife as nobody bid against me and many of the auctions for these knives end without any bids. I'd have liked to purchase thru one of the usual internet dealers but many of them ship UPS 2nd day to Hawaii in lieu of USPS Priority which really bumps up the shipping.
thanks,
RT
