I used to have enormous problems with yahoo's on-off photo album. Am now trying fototime.com to see how it goes. Here's a knife I just took my time to complete. My "Compadre" Mini-Bowie. A touch over 5inch O-1 blade, distal taper, long clip, selective hardening, satin hand rub, 303 stainless guard with "Starburst" finish, black canvas Micarta grooved "false ferrule" handle of wild-figured Ringed Gidgee. Lots of pins ! Balances right on the point of the first handle pin. Haven't done a sheath yet - suggestions ?

Hope this works better than the yahoo links, otherwise there will be much gnashing of teeth ...

Jason-- I've seen a lot of your work, got to say this may be the best yet :D Everyone will have a different opinion on whatkind of sheath would suit it best -- why not poat it on one of the "sheath makers" forums for input. My druthters would be for a simple (but elegant, of course !) bowie style sheath, with a strap-over spine keeper. How about using your "shoeleace" design keeper, but use a fancy braided leather instead of cotton? Schwert and I have talked about that idea, but haven't found the right knife for it. Maybe this is it.

Very nice!!! What is your asking price if you don't mind me asking? Keep up the good work!;)

Edit for spelling!

I like this one a lot. It is a nice usable size. People seem to like gidgee wood, and I can see why. The only thing I don't like are all those pins. I prefer two large pins to many small ones.
How do you evey find time for medical practice? You turn out knives faster then many full-time makers!

Much appreciated. Been forcing myself to SIT DOWN, CONCENTRATE. Local knifemakers like Shawn McIntyre, Peter DelRaso have been giving me good advice (sometimes bluntly, which is good) about not getting too excited and working on fit and finish. I've got a LOOOONG way but I'm quite happy with the results once I actually follow their advice. This one I just forced myself to drag it out over 3x as long as usual. Do other projects in between. RELAX MAN !! It really does something different for my focus and attention to detail - getting more in with less rush.

I spend 50hrs/week (no overtime these days) in medicine/psychiatry work and about 24hours / week hands on in the workshop, not including learning the associated computer, photography, research, forums, study (yes, I "study" knifemaking) stuff that goes with it. How do I feel about it - I love it but MAN, AM I EXHAUSTED !!

Working up to the Australian Knifemakers Guild Show 24th-25th May 2003 in Melbourne Australia. Only my second show and I'm "supposed" to present knives for judging to become full Member. Not like ABS testing or anything but I'm always nervous about stuff like that. Some of the knives I've posted lately are in preparation for the show. I'm getting anxious just writing about it. Whew ... should be OK.

I'm rambling again. Cheers. Jason.

PS.- I did ask around about the pins - there's supposed to be a subtle pattern - maybe too subtle. The "like-don't like" came up about 50-50. My wife doesn't like it. :D

On the contrary, I like how you arrange the pins. It gives some kind of a 'bad boy' theme to the knife.

:)

Very nice Jason.., and I do agree it might be a good idea to hit a few leather forums and get some sheath ideas. Nice knife...I like it... :)
