New Mini-CQC7's

Hey, guys, just curious, but does anyone know who might be carrying these in plain-edge? I checked knife center, but all they list in plain-edge is the black-bladed CQC7A. I was hoping for a satin-finished one.

This brings up another question I had. I was using the search function to check out other threads about the mini and found one where John Hollister mentioned that the mini's are meant for air travel and areas that don't allow folks to carry knives over three inches. My question is: since most airport security types freak over serrated blades (at least every thread about what knife is safe to carry on a plane mentions this) why are most of the ones I'm seeing partially serrated? Wouldn't it make more sense to make more plain-edge, or is the demand higher for the serrated ones?

Thanks guys,
Flinx

Invoked my name and I shall arise.

The post you read is correct, the minis were designed with Airline travel as one of it's intentions. However, State knife carry laws were also a big player in the development.

The air travel issue not withstanding, serrations is one of those things that swings in the wind of personal preference.

I was talking to a dealer buddy yesterday. He was taking inventory for an EKI order. (yes, I ended up ordering like three F'n knives . . . "Bastid"

) In the past year, his Commander sales have been running about 50/50 on serrated and unserrated models. He was just saying that he is flat out of serrated Commanders, seems there was a run on them this month. But he still had plenty of plain edged. Go figure.

Another issue is Lefty knives. Being left handed, he's sensitive to the needs of left handed customers. Again, sales are spotty. He'll have lefties for close to year and can't give the damn things away. Bing, all of a sudden ten people will come up looking for lefties!

People are fickle as Hell.

I called EKI yesterday and asked when plain edged mini's would be available-the lady said she was not sure, that it would be a while. Then again, I've had 2 dealers tell me they expect them in at the end of this week or early to mid next week (and these are dealers I would trust)
So who knows....
I'm just trying to be patient and wait for a plain edge, non blackT-I sold my mini-socom to free up the funds. I hope I don't break down and get a combo edge!
cheers,
Derek

Thanks guys! I appreciate the quick and informative responses. And dwenslen, which dealers would this be?

Wow - ficlke is right, John. You can't FIND a plain edge up here. All the Emersons I've seen are combo, which started me on my (lighthearted) "ernie's got a thing for serrations" gripe.

Flinx-
I deal pretty much only with bayou laforche (roger)
at www.knifeworks.com
he said when he could get them, they would be $86.99, same as his regular cqc7's.
patrick at tad said he should have some plain edges toward the end of this week, roger at Bayou said he hoped to get some (or at least me one) by the end of the week or early next week. I hope he hurries, or else I'll end up spending this $ I've saved for the mini on something else.
I can highly reccomend Roger (rogerc@bayou.com)
he is a class act and a gentleman to do business with.
if you talk with him, let him know derek from birmingham sent you!

I called TAD today and all they had available was the tanto point serrated hard chrome blade. Does anyone know where a spear point hard chrome is availabe?

PS: Dale E.(#3)you will be missed.

This is all TAD had to say about the mini's..I'm sure they will get them in, I've heard nothing but great things regarding TAD. Of course, I asked about the tanto bladed, not the "A."
best of luck, let me know where you find 'em first.
cheers,
Derek

Is there any chance you will be getting any plain edge hard chrome tanto
mini's? Do you have any idea when you would get any?
thanks in advance,

we have some coming in later this week. Thanks!

I also have been waiting for the plain blade and have decided not to buy serrated blades except on knives like the SARK for rescue situations.
