new mini grip...weird lasermarking!!??

hello all,

I just purchased my second mini grip (plain 556) over this past Memorial Day weekend and only after I got home noticed that the lasermarking of the logo was different than my other mini grip I purchased a year ago.

First off, both sides of laser marks are much darker than any other I've seen. It has a sort of 3D effect and up close you can notice that its probably been lasered twice overlapping one another. This makes the letters look darker and very fuzzy.

The weirdest difference is the 154cm logo. Instead of being on the upper left close to the handle, it is placed parallel to and sits directly above the Mel Pardue logo (the mel pardue logo being in the original location). I have seen many full size and mini grips but have never seen this logo.

I figure it was probably a mistake???

The fit and finish seems very solid and I purchased from a major retailer (REI) so I don't question the authenticity. I can't post any pics yet but would love to know what yall think. Shoot me a email if you want the pics.

I think it is pretty cool and makes your knife unique.I got a mini like yours from REI this week too.Fit and finish are superior...a very fun little blade.

It's markings are normal.
 
They have recently changed their lasermarking a bit. You probably have one of the new ones.
 
There have been other posts about the change in location. It's not a rare thing. IIRC they started using it about the same time as the new style boxes came out
 
I bought a custom Mini grip a few weeks ago (directly from Benchmade) and my 154CM is right above the Mel Pardue logo. Here is a picture (sorry for the bad quality but it give you an idea).

cust service at BM said that the lasering just seems a little off and that location variations are possible (and seems not all that uncommon). BM cust service is pretty awsome and they offered to swap for a new blade. i told them that slightly different is pretty cool and that i'd keep my mini as is. i'm so new to knives that i still care more about aesthetics than function i guess.

thanks for uploading the pic.
my 154CM is right where yours is except my whole logo is real blurred and fuzzy. couple other custom minis i've seen had that same placement as well. i guess that's how they're doing the logos for custom orders. or maybe that's how the lasering will be from now on??
 
If your logo is blurred and fuzzy, then it means they messed up the lasermarking. No added value, but definitely won't affect the function.
