New Mnandi Lockbar Too Far Engaged? Newbie Help Needed

From the pic you posted it looks too far for a Mnandi.

Take another pic closer, that would help :)

Well, like the others mentioned, too far over for a new one, thankfully you got it from a dealer and you can exchange it, I know I would.

I called CRK and they first said the new Mnandi's are made with the lockbar far over towards the rear scale. I explained it is an older model because I wanted the old nail nick for easier one handed opening, but it is brand new. It was made a few years ago. They said to email the photos and they will call me and let me know what they think. They also said as long as the lockbar is not touching the rear scale it should be no problem. I will wait for the official phone call or email to let me know. I will then inform you all here.

It is a bit annoying if I have to return it as it is difficult to find the old style nail nick.

Do you guys have more of the newer or older style Mnandi's? If you have the newer do you find as I did that one hand opening is pretty impossible? I did see a You Tube video where there guy takes his thumb and middle finger to start the blade opening then goes to the thumb only to open.

If you guys say a new style is fine then I will buy a new box elder I saw on the web at a dealer. Don't want to mention where because I don't know if I am allowed to.

Please give me input!!

My new BE Mnandi can be opened with one hand, apparently because of the way they now grind/etch the blade on the lockside near the tang. But don't take that as a garuantee that all are the same. Mine may be an anomaly.

** UPDATE **

Ok, I got a PHONE call from CRK (Angela with Chris on the phone) and I was told the lockup looks PERFECT and will be NO PROBLEM! If a problem should arise let them know and they will handle it. Chris also said late lockups on Mnandi's is what you want.

Who am I to argue, he is the MASTER!

So back in the pocket it went!

I'm glad this worked out for you! What dealer did you get it at? I'm also looking for an older style mnandi.

Sweet news man!! Glad to hear it's all resolved :)

And P.S. the new damascus mnandi's have the older style nail nick, and the new satin blade mnandi's have the new style nail nick.
So only if you were to buy a new damascus you would get the nail nick you prefer.

It may be in spec, but it looks really far over and seems to not have room to wear. I thought they sent out the knives with between 50 and 70 percent lockup? But as you said, who am I to argue with Reeve himself!

Wow thanks Kwazyjuice - you are the first person to tell me about the damascus blade having the older style nail nick. Interesting

All my Mnandis have rather deep lock up as well. If you look "through" the knife when locked up you can see the detent still has a bit to go before touching the off side scale, even with a lock up like yours. The blade stock on the Mnanadi is only ~2.25mm. A lock up of 50-70% as we see on the Sebenza wouldn't cover much of the tang. The deeper lock up on the thinner blade may have something to do with that. CRK locks also tend to wear very slowly and especially so on a knife like the Mnandi that will see light use. :)

Just curious...what issues are known or have been discussed if the frame lock bar reaches the off side scale?
