New Mnandi / Mammoth Ivory w/ Damascus Raindrop

There is a Youtube video of a guy who carried his ivory Mnandi in his jeans and the ivory absorbed the blue color. He had to send it to CRK to have the inlays ground down. Just something to keep in mind.

That has kept me from buying several ivory knives - I like to carry mine even if I don't really use them much.

But maybe a coat of Rennwax or something will protect it. You could call CRK and ask.

Could you link the video? I'm curious. I have edced a mammoth ivory sebenza in a sheath for a while and the inlays have indeed taken some color change due to my finger oils (turned from a clean white to a slightly off white, more yellow color), so I am under the impression the ivory really would turn blue from the jeans too..did not know CRK would grind down inlays either.

I'd edc the knife in the pouch, the inlays are already an off white, so finger oils wouldn't do anything thats not already there. Nice knife!

I emailed CRK Cust Svc to ask about treating the knife from discoloration due to hands, jeans, etc. I will post again when I get a response.

Ok, I got a reply from Angela at CRK, it was: (Quote)

"Hi Howard,

We use Renaissance Wax to coat the inlay to add additional protection. I also recommend using the calfskin pouch to protect the inlay while in your pocket. And we use Windex to clean the inlays if something gets on them." (End quote)

Hope this helps!

That is a truly superb example, infact I can't think of a Mnandi I would rather have over that one. :)

This is a wonderfull knife enjoy it. Old school - I love it.
As for the coloration of the handle, I've a similar experience.
While the handle was pretty white, or call it creme, I realized after a few weeks, that it got darker.
I'm not sure if this is normal with daily use, but I changed from the original pouch to a wider ostrich one.

What a great looking knife! I would for sure carry that in a pouch only to prevent damage. Nice score!!
