I found this neat new Wenger model and thought some might enjoy seeing it. Quite pricey, but unique in it's construction and features. It was developed with/for Ueli Steck, an Alpine speed climber. MSRP is about $200, but they can be found for about half that.

Now that's what I call MARKETTING! Of course, it would be cheaper and faster to just have a spare pair of ice axes than to try and repair them on the fly :D :D :D

You're kidding me-for alpine speed climbing you'd rather have a plain blade? As for the pair of ice axes, there are a bunch of designer titanium multitools out there oriented specifically towards maintaining kit anyway-think Crank Brothers Jonny Copp edition.

Perhaps. As with anything that needs repaired replaced, it would depend on what the problem is, but you would still need some specific tools to do the swapping. I saw him sharpening/cleaning the edges and tightening (more likely checking the tightness of) bolts, not repairing anything, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at with this.

not many snow covered alpine mountains around here, so I'll pass on this one. :D

None here either. I need to move. I'm thinking north and WAY east. That aught to do it.

Nah, I think I'd pass as well. We're moving to Florida to spend our retirement canoeing southern waters. Now if Wenger has a sak that has a coconut opening blade, I'm interested!:D

Carl.
