I wanted to post up pics and some specs from a new prototype I recently completed. I have been wanting to do this one for awhile, and finally got it complete. I have received a number of requests for a slightly larger version of the SAFE knife that I introduced awhile back, and this is what I came up with.
The original SAFE knife (prototype thread HERE) has a 4.75" blade, and is 1.25" wide, out of 3/16" stock. The SSII has a 5.5" blade, 1 3/8" wide, out of 3/16" stock. Both feature full flat grinds, and the edges are geared toward cutting performance, and not cinder block batonning destruction.
The SSII also uses a 1/4" thick guard, as opposed to the 3/16" thick guard on the SSI, to better match the size of the knife. There are a number of options available with this one, just like on most of my knives. This one has a couple of extra options on it. It has the pouch with tin on the sheath for carrying extra supplies, a separate PSK knife setup for neck knife style carry, and it also has the hardened stainless steel plate on the buttcap for hammering/pounding.
I'm interested in feedback, so feel free to comment if you have something you'd like to add/see or have a question, or have suggestions for improvement. Please no hollow handle knife bashing, this isn't the thread for it, feel free to start your own if that's what you'd like to do. I respect that everyone has their opinion, but this is part of my business, so please refrain here.
Blade length: 5.5"
Thickness: 3/16"
Steel: CPM 154
Hardness: 58/59
Finish: Blasted
OK, some pics:
Thank you,
