I wanted to post up pics and some specs from a new prototype I recently completed. I have been wanting to do this one for awhile, and finally got it complete. I have received a number of requests for a slightly larger version of the SAFE knife that I introduced awhile back, and this is what I came up with.

The original SAFE knife (prototype thread HERE) has a 4.75" blade, and is 1.25" wide, out of 3/16" stock. The SSII has a 5.5" blade, 1 3/8" wide, out of 3/16" stock. Both feature full flat grinds, and the edges are geared toward cutting performance, and not cinder block batonning destruction.

The SSII also uses a 1/4" thick guard, as opposed to the 3/16" thick guard on the SSI, to better match the size of the knife. There are a number of options available with this one, just like on most of my knives. This one has a couple of extra options on it. It has the pouch with tin on the sheath for carrying extra supplies, a separate PSK knife setup for neck knife style carry, and it also has the hardened stainless steel plate on the buttcap for hammering/pounding.

I'm interested in feedback, so feel free to comment if you have something you'd like to add/see or have a question, or have suggestions for improvement. Please no hollow handle knife bashing, this isn't the thread for it, feel free to start your own if that's what you'd like to do. I respect that everyone has their opinion, but this is part of my business, so please refrain here.

Blade length: 5.5"
Thickness: 3/16"
Steel: CPM 154
Hardness: 58/59
Finish: Blasted

OK, some pics:

Thank you,

Congrats on the new knife model.
Its beautiful and well proportioned IMO.
I like everything about it; size should make for a great user/utility knife, rake of clip looks good and clip is not too short (nor too long), guard great size for the knife, handle likewise.
Id gladly own one....to say the least.

Sam,

This knife and sheath might be your best so far. Beautiful proportions. Love the small choil - it really gives the blade a great look.

Thanks BladeScout. I appreciate the comment, and I always enjoy your thoughts on blade design. I think we're on the same page.

Looking good!

Thank you!

I dig it. Very nice, compact package there.

Thanks tknife!

I don't know what I like more, the knife, or the sheath system.

Both very impressive.

Thank you LV. I try to make the leather my own as much as the knife. Glad you appreciate it.

Thank you Tom. I really like this one in-hand, a lot. It really feels and looks good, imo. I wish I could take it out and whoop on it, but this one is sold. I think there will be more of these to come, though. :D:thumbup:

Thank you g&l. I have been working on this one for quite a while, and it went through a number of revisions along the way. I am very happy with the finished product, though.

Beautiful work Sam. This size is my most used knife size, perfect balance between size an weight imho.

Awesome that you're using the CPM version of 154CM. Great looking knife, Sam.

You should have actor Vernon Wells make a demo video.

Thank you knoefz! That is the same feedback (about size/weight) that I got from customers and my experience that led to designing this knife.

Thank you RX, I agree, I really like the CPM 154. I have been thoroughly impressed with it's edge stability and other attributes. Vernon Wells would probably do it if I ever found a way to contact him. In all the interviews I have seen of him, he seems really cool and like he just loves what he does.
