New models by Tomes

Thomason,I did see those, and while I have not handled one,the jigged micarta caught my eye,for handle scales on a folder,or a slipjoint.I'm on the list, and am tossing the combo around.I originally wanted a large Rem.Bullet, but I picked one up from a collector,so now,I do not know what knife I want to get,but I think I want to see the jigged micarta on it.What I did get, though,is from his new Production line, the "Tomato knife",this is awesome.I have yet to try it on a tomato, but it is real nice, and looks like it'll do the job well.Sorry for "hijacking" your thread on the hunters, but I figured this was all good chat. Those hunters do look good, and the jigged micarta is nice,he does some job on his jigged bone.

They are Tomes knives...'nuff said?
:D
They are nice, I saw them here at his table at the past two shows in NYC.
He also had a very nifty, small Woodcraft style blade. D2, thin blade, bone stag handles. This one was very affordable too.

I just looked at his web site.Tomes makes some great knives but when I looked at the price of stag folders I was shocked.A bone handle folder for $350 and the same folder with stag $750.Did stag go up this much?Does stag go for as much as presentation grade MOP?

Nice flat stag for small folders is just about imposible to get, I have been looking. I have one of his small bullets in stag and it's a great folder.

Robb - I'm not sure exactly which ones you are looking at but it may be that the cost difference is not entirely for the stag. It may be the blade steel. PJ uses Sandvik 12C27 on some models and on others he uses his forged 52100.

EDIT- Nevermind. I guess it is mostly the cost of stag. I noticed on one model the difference between the 12C27 and 52100 was only about $75. He sure does know how to use that stag though.

I have an order in with Mr. Tomes for two folders which I placed in early February. At that time he indicated that the additional charge for presentation grade stag would be $200 per knife. I do not recall for sure but I believe his lesser grade of stag would be $100 per knife.

The $200 figure was enough to give me a much greater appreciation of his bone stag.

Last Dec.,I picked up a Trapper,in the jig bone, for $215,from a collector,at that time, the knife was listed in the site for $235.Now I see the Trapper is $275,I guess I got a bargain.Either way,his knives have a feel of thier own,and I think they are worth the $.

That sounds pretty extreme to me.

I agree. It sort of took my breath away when I heard it. As I said, his stag bone instantly sounded better.

Just got off the phone with PJ. We talked about the repair work (free) on a bowie and the design of one of these new models for me. I gotta say it was a pleasure dealing with a true gentleman like Mr. Tomes. Just had to say that.:)

He's a nice guy. I was the inspiration for his micarta handled scagel fixed blades. I asked him to make me one with a micarta handle. He said it turned out so well he would offer it as a regular model. Then they popped up on his site. I have no experience with the new integrals.
