Hi Craig.

The recent turmoil has gotten me thinking. I'd really like to see GH offer a more extensive line of different khukuris, like the Cheetlang. I don't mind the overlap in models. These khuks have been around a lot longer than either HI or GH! I like variety though, and would love to see some new, unique models!

Good comment! Believe it or not, we just ordered more Reiger Khukuris, and have given the Classic Afghan a second go around. The Modern Afghan will become a regular inventory item, in fact (we oredered more of those too). And as soon as we can get the Ken Onion project going (probably in January) that'll be another unique model.

Perhaps some pics of the Reiger and the Afghan would be in order?

The boys and I came up with this notion together. Imagine some of the more unique models shrunk down to Biltong size. A true shrunken rendition of the old Afghan seems really cool. But the kamis and GH might not have so much slack time for such fun.

Craig,
When you get a Reiger, please consider me as a customer. That is a beautiful khurkuri. Usual deal?

David

David,

You seem to be developing quite the affinity for coconuts and a variety of peelers. Tell me, which khukuri is best for what size? Or are the khukes more specialized...one for the husk, another for the shell, meat removal, slicing/dicing, etc.? And now, branching out with the forward curve of the Reiger....

Mr Innes: Usual deal. I'll post when they come in. As for the small khukuris - I'm trying to keep the line to about 16 different items, but will take you up on your suggestion to do some variety on the small biltong-sized khukuris. Would a Kothimora in that size be interesting? How about a sterling silver kothimora tie pin (or blouse pin) that you can actually draw the khukuri from the sheath?

Craig, you're another step ahead of me! A "rich man's" biltong with a very fancy handle and full tang would be pretty nifty. But could the whole thing be a bit longer, so it would actually fit the hand?

While this kind of stuff is lots of fun, just talking about a "K" model puts my wallet into spasm. Any idea of the damage?

Dan, as you know, the only way to deal with a coconut is to pulverise it to a useless pulp with the back of an 18" AK! You are right though, I do like an unusual kukhuri... I think the Reiger is a babe!
Have you ever been out in SE Asia, and seen how they peel coconuts there? Man, that makes me wake up at night sweating just to think about it. They use a sharpened steel spike, embedded in the ground, sharp end up, then the work the nut round to get off the green pulpy stuff, then use it to crack the nut and clear the meat out... How these guys (and gals) have fingers defeats me!
Cheerily,
David

CRAIG, you got my attention with your idea of a Kothimora biltong. Is this for real? What a cocky little khukuri that would be! What about using "German silver" instead of the pricey stuff to make it more affordable? Maybe it could be estimated both ways, but pseudo-silver would suit me just fine for something like this. Methinks a good project for 2001, but I don't even know if any other Forumites would be interested. What d'ya think, any potential here to make it happen?

DAVID, I enjoyed your coconut post. Nope, I've never been to such wonderful places (just a hillbilly back in the hills of Virginny who likes bluegrass and surgery).
