Just want to point folks to some pics I took at the SHOT show of the new items. Sorry for the quality, but I had to take them quickly.
Yes, and no. On the Sage, the handle material change has been incidental to the lock change, while in the case of the Chaparral, the lock will remain the same on all versions, and only the scales will change. In that regard it's kind of like a larger Kopa. But in design, it's a slightly smaller version of the Sage and, like the Sage, it will be made in Taiwan.Chapperell - isn't that pretty much the same thing as the Sage? KC's blog says that it will be like the Sage, except that they'll change the handle material instead of the lock after every version. Hasn't the Sage changed the handle material every time anyway?
Have to say it's the first new model that's had me really excited in quite a while.

What's steel is planned for the Szabo folder?

Made in Japan, supposedly, so steel will probably be VG-10 to keep costs down. The exchange rate's a killer.

Aside from KC's spelling being about as fuzzy as their photos,Is this Chapperell the "Mini Sage" Sal had mentioned in the past? Looks like it--it has a front lock just like he said the Mini Sage would. I'm excited about this one, it's cool that now we get some frontlock folders from the fantastic Taiwan manufacturer. So far, it's the most exciting proto from SHOT show I've seen so far
Interesting--No Boye dent!
PS--Deacon, finally an ambi CF Sage for you!![]()

Our new design was created as a mid lock-back with no Boye dent, naturally with Deacon in mindMid back-locks serve safety, social and legal requirements well. They are also left / right friendly.
It's a Spyderco design from our in-house R&D design team. Clip is left/right tip up deep pocket wire. (Sorry Paul, but it is removable and you can plug some turquoise in the holes for decorum). Maybe Santa Fe can make standard pretty "plugs" for our wire clip models?
Blade is 2-3/4" full flat leaf.
Plans for the "Chaparral" include carbon fiber, G-10 and Titanium models, (same pattern). Should begin in early 2011.
Thoughts also include a "Slipit" version and if well received, FRN is possible.
We haven't decided on steels yet, but more than likely we'll use a variety of exotic Crucible and Carpenter steels for the "exotic" scale versions.
We appreciate your interest.

Here's a quote of a post Sal made over on the Factory forum about six months back...
