Being a very avid reader myself(mostly the fantasy genre), I agree with Jake about Larry's books. I've actually read most of his books twice, and that's saying something since I only found his books last winter. I normally go through 2 to 4 books a month, all in audio format. I drive a lot, and books are my way of getting from her to there and back again. Larry has a really nice way of drawing you into the story and making you want be part of it. I would put him in my top tier of fantasy writers, right up there with Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Joe Abercrombie, Peter V. Brett, Robin Hobb, and a few others. If any of you have read those other authors, you'll know that that isn't a an easy list to get put onto.
His characters are fleshed out, without him having to dedicate chapters of boring adjectives. They are fun, fast paces, and enthralling.
'Alpha' sticks out as the odd book in the series, but for some reason it sticks out to me as possibly his best work to date. I love all the other books as well, but 'Alpha' is the one that I have to say is just a step above the others in small ways. Mainly the character development in 'Alpha' is even better than it is in his other books.
