New Mora Bushcraft Black - Poor Grind

I just wondered if this is usual with Mora. I understand it is a budget knife and that is why I bought it as my back up. However, the poor grind makes me wonder of I should return it. The Scandi is a couple millimeters off on one side near the tip so looking from above it is very asymmetrical. I don't have permission to post a picture or I would.

:) I am just not a paying member. I did call my mom though and she said it was ok.

I wouldn't send it back, but then I usually end up doing a convex grind on Moras not long after I get them. I can't say that I've ever really noticed whether the grinds on any of my Moras were this way. The only thing I've ever noticed is that the bevels are actually slightly concave (you notice this quickly when trying to put a convex on one :D). The slight asymmetry shouldn't have any effect on performance, but if the looks of it bug you enough, then return/exchange it by all means.

I decided to send it back for exchange. I am too anal I guess. I know it would not matter for performance but its hard to defend such a poorly ground knife. I would expect that from a $5 knife from Harbor Freight but not with a quality brand.

It's not uncommon for the grind on one side or the other to stop just the tiniest hair short of the spine, creating the illusion of a lopsided grind when viewed top-down, but not for the grind to run out significantly like that.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. My Mora Bushcraft Black is my favorite knife. It outperforms knives that cost 6 times more. I absolutely love it. A buddy of mine (who's also into bushcraft) came over to check out some of my newest additions to my collection. And of all the knives he checked out, he fell in love with the Bushcraft Black. So much, in fact, that he went right home and ordered one for himself.

If this knife cost $100, it would still be awesome. That it's only $35 is mindblowing.

It's a $35 knife that isn't made in China, what do you expect.

If it was made in China, it would probably cost as much as the $5 Chinese Harbor Freight knife.
