After noticing the new companion line of Moras at Ragnars.. I had to wonder since they are very similar to the clipper, If they had the same short tang, or the longer tang lke the craftline models.. So a few days ago I emailed mora of sweden for info.

Just gor back from an overnight checked my email and found the reply.. The new mora companion line has the extended 3/4 tang as found in most of the craftline models.. Good news for all of us clipper lovers that wanted a mroe robust version
Just thought I'd share.

John,
Since you seem to be well-informed on this model, what's your take on the blade thickness on the carbon Companion coming in at only 0.080, vs the same knife in stainless, which Ragnar lists as 0.098? I'd love to get the carbon version, but would prefer the thicker blade. Thanks.

Mora might have used the TopQ blade for the stainless without finishing the spine.

Rain dog, The Clipper (which the companion is poised to replaces is .078 thick if I'm not mistaked and is plenty robust..

Mora posted this to their Facebook page recently.

True, true. As you well know, I have some exposure to the model, thanks to you:thumbup:, and I find them not disappointing in any way. Just wondering why the inconsistency. The topQ blade makes the most sense. Can't help but hanker for the .098 blade, though.

Nice. Thanks for the image. They should do this for all their models. Put the tang debate to rest once and for all.

That shot of a Mora is satisfying. Glad to see the tang going back that far.

That Facebook diagram could also apply for the HighQ which has the same tang as the 711 or 911 though never 100% sure of anything. :D In any case took this photo of the standard carbon Clipper and carbon HighQ. The blade is a bit smaller but works rather well.

Keep in mind that the carbon steel blades by Mora are hardened to Rockwell 58-60, while the stainless blades are 56-58; so that may explain why they felt the need to make the stainless blade .018 thicker.

I have a HighQ Allround Carbon & a Stainless one as well - both have a long tang, definitely going more than 1/2 way through the handle. It is easy to check this with a strong magnet.

So if one was going to buy their first mora which would you recomend the new companion or the highq?

SHotgun,, Either one is Great.. The companion blade is a bit wider whcih I like for general use, but use both

Raindog, For the record... The stainless COmpanion has the same exact blade as the top q, btu is a couple of bucks cheaper.. (don;t know why)

Not that is matters for use but did Mora finish the spin on the companion like the TopQ.

The High Q blades are a bit smaller and for the SS thinner however hard to go wrong with any of them.
