I am finishing up reading Ed Fowlers Knife Talk II, and read one of his articles about Ben Lilly. Anybody on here know anything about him? I've done a few Google searches, but most sites I come across are advertisements for some biographies, which I am buying, naturally. Thanks for the help.

I've read a couple stories on him. he used to forge his own knives, with really long blades. Hunted mountain lions and bears with a couple dogs and a knife.

I read a story about him, I think in an issue of Tactical Knives or Blade a few years ago. Very interesting life he lived.

Blade mag. ran the story. It will be in the index on their web site. He guided pres. T. Roosevelt on a bear hunt and fixed him up. Forged his own knives and liked lever actions. Man after my own heart,he was.

born on the last day of 1856 in alabama his family moved to mississippi were he had a nature calling for the art of survival and was trapping and hunting at a young age.As a young man he moved to louisiana were he became a farmer and trader but after a little time he was hunting more than anything it was around this time that he perfected his shooting. In 1904 ben met ned hollister the head of the us fish and wildlife who hired ben to collect and bring in hides, bones ect of diferent animals such as panther, bear .wolf. He left his family behind and took to just this work which is what he became known for, even Theodore Roosevelt hunted with him in 1907 and said "I never met any man so indifferent to fatigue and hardship".He hunted everyday but sunday for years and years hunting for bounty .He did not need much and had a true love for hunting and his dogs he used a homemade muzzleloader even though repeaters could be had and carried a very large bowie he had made for himself he was one of last and one of the best.
