Just recievived my mountaineer II from the ups man(woman) today. Bought it NIB from oso grande knives (d.o.b. 2/23/09) and could not be happier with it. I would like to share a few comments on my first crk one piece knife. First it is extremely sharp. Sharper than my seb 21 and way sharper than any benchmade i've had out of the box.
Second it is slightly smaller than i had expected. I'm actually really happy with the overall size because it seems big enough without becoming too large.
Third, the kg gun kote finish on the knife is very nice. In the small amount i've used the knife today it doesn't seem to show scuffs or scratches too easily, compared to a buck nighthawk i used to have. The knife looked black in the pictures i looked at but in reality it is a gray color very similar to the scales on my 21.
Last the sheath deserves some praise as well. I've never had a sheat that had no snap or some sort of other closure to secure the knife but the mountaineer II sheath is made perfectly and has a firm, secure fit that eliminates any worry of the knife coming out inadvertantly. If you couldn't tell i'm very impressed with this knife and i recommend getting your hands on a crk one piece before they go away.
Something about a knife that is made from one solid piece of steel is appealling to me and the feel and weight of it in the hand is just right.
Anyone else think the one piece knives deserve some more credit?
