Just recievived my mountaineer II from the ups man(woman) today. Bought it NIB from oso grande knives (d.o.b. 2/23/09) and could not be happier with it. I would like to share a few comments on my first crk one piece knife. First it is extremely sharp. Sharper than my seb 21 and way sharper than any benchmade i've had out of the box.
Second it is slightly smaller than i had expected. I'm actually really happy with the overall size because it seems big enough without becoming too large.
Third, the kg gun kote finish on the knife is very nice. In the small amount i've used the knife today it doesn't seem to show scuffs or scratches too easily, compared to a buck nighthawk i used to have. The knife looked black in the pictures i looked at but in reality it is a gray color very similar to the scales on my 21.
Last the sheath deserves some praise as well. I've never had a sheat that had no snap or some sort of other closure to secure the knife but the mountaineer II sheath is made perfectly and has a firm, secure fit that eliminates any worry of the knife coming out inadvertantly. If you couldn't tell i'm very impressed with this knife and i recommend getting your hands on a crk one piece before they go away.
Something about a knife that is made from one solid piece of steel is appealling to me and the feel and weight of it in the hand is just right.

Anyone else think the one piece knives deserve some more credit?

Congrats on your Mountaineer II. I just received my Shadow IV today and have all the same positive observations & thoughts as you, except for the size issue (I'd fondled one at a gun show a few months back). What a great designer and cutler....wow!

The One-Piece Knives are my favorite knives from CRK. I currently have 16 of them. I prefer the spearpoint, so at least half of them are spearpoint of some configuration. I have a Pachmayr that is the only one I have ever seen. So I am not thinking they made many. My Holy Grail one piece knife is the Jeroboam I with the saw tooth back. It took me quite awhile to find one. Overall, they are the toughest knives I have ever used for a fixed blade knife. Its going to be a sad day when CRK stops making them at the end of this year. I carry the shadow III all through hunting season and use it for everything. I used the Sable IV to clean my deer last year. Awsome knife. I used the Tanto I to clear shooting lanes. I cant say enough about them.
Check out my CRK Timeline I have as a Sticky. I have to update it, but it will show you many of the one piece knives out there. I will work on updating it next week for you all. Enjoy !!!

I love the Mountaineer II. Had two of them over the years and sold them like a dummy. Your post has certainly given me some inspiration to get one and keep it before they're extinct!

It's my favorite of the one piece range, with its single guard, thumb notches on the back of the blade, and perfect blade size. Enjoy that beauty!

Professor.
