New mule - second release?

So I purchased a Mule (k390), and eagerly awaited shipment. A few days ago, I got the dreaded email from Spyderco:

"We appreciate your support and enthusiasm to purchase our Mule Team K-390 MT17P. Unfortunately, we experienced website issues. Our system accepted more orders than could be filled with our limited inventory. Orders were reviewed by date and time received. We regret that your order cannot be fulfilled at this time and has been cancelled from our system. We will keep your name and contact information and should we end up having any available inventory, we will contact you based on the same priority that your order was received."

I am disappointed, but I understand. My question is this - Is anyone familiar with a second release, or a quantity of inventory that was held back during initial release? Anything like this happen before?
I have not heard back from them since Tuesday, so I am assuming that I will not be getting a mule this time around.

Thanks for any info.

Guess that means I will have to get two of the CTS 204P.

Id be surprised if they did that. Don't think its ever happened before...but ya' never know.

They have in the past made seconds available at a small discount, but they've never had one sell out that fast before. Since the Mules are sold only through the SFO and not sent to distributors or dealers (except for a few CC numbered pieces) I know of no reason for them to hold back any.

On mule runs is the op asking about a second batch being made or as you mentioned seconds or flawed versions?

Learned something new, thanks. I figured mule seconds or flawed were used internally for testing of the steel, etc........didn't know they sold'em at the factory clean out sale.

I don't know. It is possible they would produce a second batch of K390 Mules. It is also possible that the moon will fall out of the sky. I think the odds are the same on the two events. There may not even be any seconds to be sold. They certainly never have made a second batch of any of the others, I doubt they'll start now.

They have actually sold some of the seconds online through the SFO as well as having a bunch of them at the last Factory Sale.

It's possible I'm crossing the K390 Mule with the Forum Native, but I believe Kristi posted that there will be no more Mules (in fact, they were accidentally over-sold due to a computer error).

Thanks for the info. I have heard of other manufacturers who released a limited run, then had a few extras/leftovers that they released at a later date. I have never heard of such a thing with mules, but was hoping.
I will keep a lookout for seconds.

And there is always Mule 14.

Just got this email!!

"I have some great news! We had an order cancellation and you were next on my list to be notified that we have a Mule Team17 (MT17) to fill your original order. Would you like me to re-open your order to process? The original card used would be charged."

Not really a second run, but Christmas for me either way.

Yes, I read something like that on the Spyderco forum as well. That they made a batch and there will be no more.

As popular as K390 is, and as many requests as there were on this forum and the Spyderco forum, I am astounded they only made 700. Heck, 1500 would have sold out in a week. :(:(

Considering how long it has taken to sell out most of the others, I can't fault them for being conservative.

We might still have the MT-14 in 204P to look forward to - not sure if this one will ever see the light of day...

Does anyone remember what MT-18 will be?
