hey guys im looking for a new multi tool. i have the swiss tool spirit and really like it but i want one i can comfortably carry in my pocket without having to wear a sheath on my belt (brings a little to much attention.) any ones pop into ur mind? im open to um all so fire away. Thanks in advance.

The biggest multi-tool I'll willing to pocket carry is a Leatherman S2. Rounded edges for comfortable carry and a tad over 4 oz. It will NOT preform like the Spirit, but it will handle most medium duty jobs.

The Charge series from Leatherman might be one to look at. They all have removeable pocket clips.

My usual pocket EDC these days is a Juice CS4 suspended into my jeans RF pocket from the belt by dummy cord w/fast release clip. Without a cord, like with dress trousers, what works best for me is a PST, which I find very pocketable at a slim 5 oz.

Is the Spirit too big or heavy? Or would you prefer a pocket clip? I pocket carry the Leatherman Charge using the clip but it's actually a bit thicker and heavier (about 2oz heavier) than the Spirit (which I also pocket carry).

You might check out the skeletool or the skeletool cx. The Leatherman Kick and Juice multi-tools might also be what you're after. A pocket clip is available as an accessory for the Kick. Or if you don't mind sacrificing an ergonomic grip, you might also look at the older Leatherman tools (e.g. PST II) or the SOG Pocket Power Plier.

Also try the Victorinox Deluxe Tinker. Sure its pliers won't handle any heavy duty work but it should be ok for EDC.

mmm yeh the swiss tool spirit isnt bad in jeans but when i wear khakis its a little big and bulky so smaller and lighter would be nice. i may go with the skeletool, similar length but considerably lighter and has the tools i like. but the juice looks good or evena pst maybe event the micra or squirt p4. so in other words really hav no clue. Thanks guys

If the Spirit is just too big, there aren't many options. Something like a Leatherman Kick is a bit smaller and lighter, but tool selections and locking capabilities are sacrificed.

The Leatherman Juice and Squirt series are much more pocketable. Similarly sized models are offered by the likes of SOG and Gerber. But they all sacrifice some usability for the sake of size.

If you don't need full size pliers, a number of SAKs can fit the bill in a much more compact arrangement.

They're all good multi-tools. Buy them all! ;) The Skeletool isn't available yet so that may help narrow things down. If you like the SwissTool Spirit, znapschatz's recommendation of a Juice is probably the closest match. I really like the PST II (esp. its diamond file and scissors) but it lacks the ergonomics and fit/finish of the Juice. The P4 and Micra are a different breed but they're also good multi-tools. I'd probably go with a Swiss army knife instead of the Micra but that's just a personal preference.

What about the new Spyderco SpydeRench? I have not handled one yet, but I have never owned a Spyderco I didn't like. It looks like a nice multi-tool, with a belt clip for pocket carry.

Depending on what implements you actually need and use, a plain ol' Leatherman PST is mighty tough to beat. It has got its pros and cons of course, but it's an engineering masterpiece in its own way.

i edc a leatherman charge ti in my rfp. you could not ask for more from a multitool

If you can find a discontinued Leatherman pro get it ! I had one and sold it, much to my regret! Just won one on ebay and this is going to stay!!

just saw the guppie by crkt, and the zilla in their catolouge in the GD section cool!

For years every time I bought a new pair of pants I would sew another seam in the right front pocket. I'd sew through only the pocket for about 3.5 inches in a line parallel to the edge of the pocket that runs more or less along the line as the crease in the front of the leg when standing- if your pants have a crease. The seam would be about 1.5 inches from that long vertical (when standing) edge of the pocket. This would keep my PST vertical when standing and walking instead of resting horizontally and bulging out away from the curvature of the leg - Very goofy looking.

"Is that a PST in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

I got tired of sewing and now I just tuck my PST in beside my wallet. Instead of a "regular" wallet, I use an EMT surgical glove pouch from which I have cut the belt-loop webbing. It's wider than necessary and I crowd everything into one side. The leaves a flap of material behind which I tuck my PST. The flap hides the shape and helps keep the PST from wearing through the pocket as fast. Although I'm right-handed. I carry the PST on the left "cheek" because many times when I need my leatherman, my right hand is trying to hold something together or keeping me from falling.

just thought id tell u i picked up a leatherman micra- i like it so far- i guess i cant go wrong with a leatherman right- thanks for the info guys
