I just received a new Spyderco Native 5, I really like it but when opening and closing the knife, the blade seems very tight. I think there is suppose to be some sort of adjustment for that somewhere. Do I have to take off the G10 to access some sort of adjustment screw? I tried loosening the two screws that seem to secure the G10 to liner (at the pivot bushing) but it didn't help.

Im kind of nervous to take the knife apart, is this something I should attempt or should I try a drop of oil or perhaps return the knife.

thanks in advance for any advise on this matter.

No hidden adjustment.Try to slightly loosen the screw closest to the pivot and a drop of oil wont hurt.

still no good, oil didn't really help. even with both screws on each side of the pivot out its still very tight, compaired to any other knife I have. My paramilliarty II just the blad just drops when I release the lock. this one you requires alot of effort to get it opened or closed.

Is it easy to take this knife apart? I am tempted to do that and investigate further? it has to be able to be looser than this.

Since that did not help best to exchange it with the dealer.

I think I have decided to just live with it, I am sure I will get used to it and it will probably loosen up as time goes by. thanks for the advice.

I noticed on my new Delica 4 FFG ZDP189 the same thing, while my Endura 4 FFG is only slightly more loose.I can live with the tightness, though it made me wonder if it was because of legal ramifications that they were tighter than my older Spydercos.Don't get me wrong,I like both those knives a whole bunch.:)

I dont think so, I just got my Paramillitary II (the brown one in S35VN) a few months ago and it is very loose not only can I flick it open so fast you'd think it was a spring assited knife, but I can close it just as easy, if I depress the lock and flick it forward the blade drops all the way down into the closed position.

Should be the same pivot bushing system on the native 5 but this one wont move at all unless you push it. I have seen videos where they depress the lock on the Native 5 and the blad drops, but not on mine, but like I said, maybe with time it will break in

The N5 is a backlock. There's always going to be a good bit of pressure on the blade keeping it in a closed position. That's the nature of the backlock. If the opening is smooth, just tight, that's natural. Both of mine are like that. It's why I like backlocks over lock systems that let blades swing loose.

If the opening process is gritty or rough, then some cleaning with WD40, drying with air, and using a good lube will help ease the working-in period. I definitely don't recommend trying to take the N5 apart to make any kind of adjustment (which isn't there to make anyway, as Rycen and Ken44 have said).

yes, what ever was hanging it up worked free, its working much better now, I just continued to open and close it a bunch of times and now it seems to be working better. thanks everyone
