new native?

Somebody asked earlier this month about the Native 4 over on the Spyderco forums. Here's what Sal had to say:

We're doing a "pilot" run now. Probably still a few months off.

This will be a major change in the design and we'd like to make sure we get it right. Refining and improving the lock-back geometry has been challenging.

Once the pattern is nailed down, We'll be making new molds for the FRN version.

Later in the thread he also mentioned:

All of the Native production will be made in Golden. FRN, G-10, CF or anything else our customers want.

That's all I've heard lately.

No other specs have been officially released yet, not even a release date.

What is the major change in design? It looks exactly like the Carbon Fiber Native 4, but with different materials. What am I missing?
 
The second sentence. The lock mechanism on a folder is about 50% of the design overall IMO. I would call that major.

I had kind of wondered that myself. It looks like the only change from the CF version is different scales, so I'd think the lock would be the same. Could be they learned some things based off feedback from the CF version that they want to improve for the upcoming release. I'm sure that small changes that aren't apparent to the eye make big differences. Maybe Native 4.1 would be a more appropriate designation?;)
 
Is there currently something up with the lock-back mechanism? I was just about to get one.
 
I know that's just a pic of a demo knife, but geez louise that clip is damn ugly scratched up and all. If they're going to redesign this thing, get rid of the black-easy-to-stratch clip.
 
The shape of the blade on the Native I & II made me felt in love for this model. Little bit different on the III , and really simple on the CF... Why don't they keep the same kind of blade as the first one ? Or make only few modifications like on the III ? Anyway I like the general shape of this knife so well, not so important but ...!
 
I'm curious about blade length. I like 3" or shorter due to the many places I travel that have that limit.
