What exactly does the "new new" style Lg. Sebenza's clip cutout look like? What's the cutout's actual purpose? Will someone please post a pic or two of what the cutout and pocket clip looks like here?

TIA,
Mark

Do a search for 'modifications' and read the post 'sebenza modification'...it has pics

Thanks HC Leo!

Never used that search feature before. That's a fantastic feature here at BladeForums!

I see the cut out, what I do like about it is that the two grooves on the lock which were used for the bending are not there anymore. That's an improvement I really do like, never did care for the way it looked with those two grooves being present at the locks bending area. The cutout isn't really noticeable unless you were to remove the pocket clip, that's something I would never do anyways! Got to have a pocket clip on my knives, sure beats a sheath or just the fumbling of a knife inside the pocket.

Thanks again,
Mark

Actually Mark, the two semi-circle cut outs are still there on the current sebenzas. The Sebenzas you see without the semicircles was CRK trying it out and they found out they did not like it, so they switched back to the semi circles.

If the semi circle cutouts are still on the Sebenza right where the cutout for the pocket clip is, isn't that cutting it to thin at the lock / handle / bending area? What are the chances then of the titanium at that point being too weak and eventually snapping or cracking because of the thinness at that area there?

I thought about that too Mark. But the fact is, titanium is extremely tough stuff. It has the ability to flex indefinitely as long as it is within its stess limit.
As an example, there are several brands of titanium mountain bikes which have a spring assembly at the seat post junction which allows the chainstays to constantly fex up to 1-1/4" when ridden over rough terrain which acts as a shock absorber. The tubing on the chainstays has a thinner wall than the area of the Sebenza in question and these companies never have had any failures of the titanium since it never flexes beyond its design limit. Some of these bikes are ridden hard over very rough terrain for years and never a problem.
So, I wouldn't worry about the Sebenza.

Thanks harrydog for explaining. I wonder if Chris Reeve did any tests regarding this though? After all, these knives do cost an arm and leg and I would hope that extensive testing was done, but again I realize that some things are overlooked, not on purpose of course!

Hopefully CRK will fill us in on this too?!

Mark, I wouldn't worry about the lock bar cracking or breaking. The worse possible thing is the lock failing (the semicircle cutouts bent) due to force on the blade. And Spyderco tested the lock and it withstood more than 400lbs. I even heard that with this new cutout under the clip, the lock is actually stronger because the metal is centered.

I think that maybe the semi-circles aren't cut so deep, but I haven't compaired them side-by-side yet. I LOVE the new design!!! Didn't think I'd like the polished screws either, but I do!
