New Novel: World Made By Hand, by James Howard Kunstler

Yeah, it does look like an interesting book. I'm into the post-apocalyptic genre, and this one looks like it might be pretty realistic. I think I'll get this one and add it to my growing pile of "books to be read." :)

I find the reader reviews on Amazon useful; there are a few here.

He wrote "The Long Emergency" for Rolling Stone magazine and has a website called "Clusterf*ck Nation." He is a flaming liberal that considers things like gun ownership as something that we should do away with because it's counterproductive to peace and love and all that nonsense. Do not simply go to "Clusterf*cknation Dot Com" as that is a porn site, it is the name of his website, however. Just not the address to it.

All of that having been said, he writes scary stuff along the lines of "LATOC," meaning "Life After The Oil Crash." I think his ideas have to be taken seriously even though I consider him an idiot on other issues. He's actually quite smart on a lot of other issues.

The problem with a concept like LATOC is, who do you believe? Both sides, oil companies and the opposition to them, they both lie their ass off constantly. Are we at "Peak Oil?" Approaching it? Past it? Who knows because you cannot believe either extreme on the issue.

I was reading his stuff along with people like Frosty Wooldridge and Gerald Celente for about five years now.

Reading some of the exerts and reviews, it seems like he got rid of too many modern convinces tech improvements. Some of the things he knocked off the list will still be around. And with enough oil to last us well over 300 or more years to go and America controlling a huge part of it, i dont see it as a realist book. To many new things would be invented, that would help combat it then that we cant even think of today.

But does that mean i wont read it no! I like a good end of the world book as the next guy, will be picking it up.

It would be great if we had 300 more years worth of easily obtainable oil. I don't know that we do.
