I just got my new Limited Production Offset from Dantes today and I was shocked at the size and weight of it. This thing is a moose!, but a Moose that I will happily keep.

wow, I want one. badly. that knife is beautiful.

if I finally get a solid buyer for my subs, I'm hunting one of those down.

1597GRY?

Thats what I was wondering. I thought the aluminum handled Offsets had black blades. Now that I think about it, a black bladed 1597G10 would be awesome.

i don't really know what it means, that's just the numbering on the blade in the pic. is that the sku or whatever that I would search for?

nice pic up there NY! that be the grey bladed Offset with the alum. handle.

bookworm, 1597GRY is the knife's model number

there are three variations: 1597, 1597GRY, 1597G10.

the alum. handled models are the only ones with the two blade colors, grey and black. the G10 version has yet to get that treatment

offset Lover

Since you seem to be the resident offset expert here, I have a couple of questions. I ordered the 1597 and I thought it was advertised as a black blade (which is what I wanted). Isn't the 1597 a black blade?

Also, the knife was advertised as a limited production model, shouldn't it be numbered?.

well, i see KD is on here, so lets see if i can get to you first lol

well i need to read the pics again it seems lol

yeah the 1597 is a black blade. it appears to be false advertizing on all fronts. (listen to KD. we are offseters :D) that looks like what you got. if it were to have the black blade, it would be numbered.

hope that helps. KD has all three (funds have been limited for me :( ), so he can prolly shed some more light if i havnt covered it already

The 1597 is the first version with the black blade. They are numbered to 1000.
The 1597GRY has the grey blade and is not numbered. There were actually less of these made.

Wouldn't that mean that since they aren,t numbered that there would be no proof that it is part of a limited production run? I bought it to keep as a collectors piece and as such without it being numbered it is pretty much worthless as one.

did you get it off the internet? if so where? false advertising is very very possible here. There really isnt proof.

I bought it from Dantes, it was advertised as a black blade but now the knife isn't on they're website anymore but, I have the sales receipt they Emailed me and it states on it a 1597 not a 1597 GRY and it also states a black blade. I intend calling them in the morning. It might be a mistake on they're part but I intend to try to get it resolved and will keep everyone informed on their customer service.

yeah i would do that. hopefully it was a mistake and they will swap it out with one that has a black blade. best of luck and keep us posted

I don't have an exact count today, but maybe only a couple hundred of the non coated blades were produced. They were not numbered.

The 1000 pieces of the coated blades were finished up, and we had extra parts. Instead of scrapping the parts, we made up the GRY version. We didn't want to exceed the 1000 pieces of the black version, so we just didn't coat the blades. Guess we were lazy by not numbering them, but we just didn't know how many the extra parts would add up too.

Hope that helps, and is not too confusing.

Something to consider...

Although 1000 numbered black-coated model-1597 Offsets were produced as a "limited edition", only a few hundred of the 1597GRY models were produced.

These aren't numbered, but any really knowledgeable Kershaw collector is possibly acquainted with these facts, and even if not they're easy to find out, so...

Which model is really more collectible? The one with 1000 available, or the one with only a few hundred that should ultimately be harder to find?

Sometimes I'm glad I'm limited financially in my ability to collect and forced to limit my purchases to knives I actually use on a regular basis...

Of course, I'd really rather be flush and able to do both!

NY Marksman: here's hoping the seller resolves your issue and you get the knife you wanted and paid for!

Got one of these Beasties (with the black blade) on trade recently. It's a very neat knife, definitely has a presence :) Wasn't sure how I'd like the "Splash" handles but they kinda match the over feel of the knife.

A little too Pimpy for EDC ;) but a wonderful piece to have.

Someone must have had the same thought as you had. I have an offer to sell the knife and I have given the potential buyer a really reasonable price. Although I could send the knife back for a refund (I called today and although Dantes wasn't at all happy that I wanted a refund because the knife was not as advertised they said to send it back) I would rather sell it to someone here who would appreciate it's uniqeuness. I would be taking a signifigant loss but better that then trusting shipping and then waiting for Dantes to get around to giving me back my refund (I've gone through those kind of problems before and want no part of it again). So this might possibly work out for the best after all.
