Hey guys, just wanted to share a find that I had today. I have made a kind of tradition to get myself a traditional knife every xmas. They just feel right at this time of year
. Today, I was looking around in an antique shop and had a look through the knife bin. Mostly junk but just before I called it quits I found an older looking Scout knife. I know very little about traditional blade and age and such but this one had a lot of character (and it was cheap which is good
)
Ill post pictures up tommorow but ill give a brief description of it so maybe the experts will be able to chime in a bit about it.
First off it had dark bone jigged handles. In the middle of the handles is a badge saying "SCOUT KNIFE" in all capitals. The knife is made in germany (says made in germany on one side of the main blade, and made in west germany on the other). It has a main blade with a long nail pull (2/3rds on the length of the blade) and it has a punch, screwdriver/bottle opener as well as a kind of interesting can opener. The can opener pull comes out perpendicualr to the tool and has a nice little coutout in the handle.
The blades appear to be stainless steel as they dont show any signs of pattina, although the do have a couple rust spots and other marks.
From what I can tell the knife has never seen use, as the blade is still very sharp and has no marks of use, some for the other tools.
My guess is that the knife is perhaps from the 70s but it could be newer I suppose.
Although my description is probably not enough, ill be sure to post some pics tomorrow. I was really excited to find such a neat little knife and wanted to share today
