Hey folks.

40 something. New to the Forum. Not so new to knives. Got tired of one of the other knife forums and I am happy to have made the switch. Was getting very stale there.

My current drawer conatins:

Benchmade 705
Ontario Pilots Survival Knife
Case butterbean in antique bone
Vintage Case peanut
Vintage Buck 112
Vintage Buck 119
Vintage Schrade Bear Paw
Bear MGC fetahermate drop point with Stag handles
A modded Khukri inspired by the M40 Survival site
Woodmans Pal
SOG Stingray
Cold steel Spetsnaz shovel
Marble bird and trout knife
Gerber BMF
Probably 10 or so "others"

I hunt (mostly waterfowl, some rifle, some archery), kayak, Mountain bike, Camp (a lot) and started about 5 years ago to go back to basics where outdoors and survival is concerned.

Drive a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, Ride a Suzuki Katana 600 and have a restored 1969 VW I inherited from my Father who passed last March.

Live in Southern NJ (unfortunately and only for a few more years)

Very interested in making my own knife in the near future and look forward to everyone's expertise on steels, design and application.

Just wanted to say Hi.

Carl-

hi new old guy carl, welcome. nice collection you got there. i have the 705, liked it so much i bought another just to have new in the box. also, have a 707,943,814 mini afck, 556 mini grip and the 440 opportunist. can you tell i'm hooked on benchmades. also buck 110,112 and victorinox sak's. most recently pulled the trigger on a chris reeve small regular sebenza. can't say enough about it. anyway enough of me rambling, welcome and stay a while. Welcome - and come on down to W&SS to play in the outdoors!

For your vintage 119 - is that one of the ones out of 440HC?

Welcome, Carl. You can't go wrong here. These are some great people and will steer you in the right direction if you have questions. You have a nice collection already.

40 something and you think you are old? Wait till you hit middle-age (which starts at 65).

Welcome to the forums, and check out the traditional subforum (under general).

From your collection, it sounds like you will fit right in.

Glad to have you with us PrimitiveMan.

Old at 40, na when you hit 50 you'll think your 40's were the best decade.

Well, hello Carl!
Anyone who had originally bought and still owns a Gerber BMF is more than ok by me :-)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I will definitely be a regular in the Wilderness Survival forum

KGD,

My 119 is a pre 1986 (bought in 1984, no dots)

Girlymann,

I am in fact the original owner of my BMF. Early short blade model, no serrations and although somewhat used, I still have the original compass and alice clips. I used to have a Mark I, Mark II and a Guardian Backup, but they all seem to have vanished over time. I don't carry the BMF any longer as I have switched to the Ontario Pilots Survival knife I bought 3 years ago just because I always wanted one. It seems to be the perfect knife for my wilderness/survival needs. I have a whole system/kit based around it.

I don't think I am old at 40 something. I still do everything I did at 30 something and 20 something. Just wanted everyone to realize I have some "History" behind me. Hahaha!

welcome to the forum carl. if i can help you with anything feel free to contact me. i can show you how to put a wicked edge on a knife. just ask brian :D
