New (old) knife--any ideas on the maker?

I won this beauty the other day, and it arrived today. Perfect length (just under 3.5"), and nice ebony scales. Blades are tight with great snap and half stops. Both blades are marked with 3 lines. Top Line: WITTE middle line: HDWE CO bottom line: ST LOUIS.

I suppose that could be the maker (never heard of them, but I'm no expert.) The quality, build, and materials remind me of my Robeson teardrop EO, or even an Ulster. What do you all think?

The only thing that strikes me funny is how low the main blade sits behind the pen blade. (Sorry the pic is so dark)

And here it is with my old Robeson Shure Edge teardrop EO:

A tear drop (bullet-nose?) serpentine pattern, very unusual. Someone more knowledgeable of vintage knives can probably track this down based on the pattern.
I'm pretty sure the hardware company was not the manufacturer.

Beautiful knife

Ah, so that's where GEC got the idea for the first-run of the #15 Boy's Knife! ;)

Levine has the company from 1849 to present (date of his 4th edition). He has F. Wiebusch as a partner in 1865.
Wiebusch was owner or part owner of a few early cutlery companies including Challenge.

Great knife.

Best regards

I bid on that one too. Great knife and glad it found a home where I get to at least see pictures of it. 😉 👍👍

i'm curious to find out what you learn about the maker.

Sorry for out bidding you!

Sorry for out bidding you!

No problem. Win some, lose some. I was camping with the kids, and my connection just wasn't fast enough for a follow up bid. Just remember me if you ever want to get rid of it. 😉 And post lots of pictures. 😄

The only info I could find was what has already been shared. I'm sure it was made under contract, but no clue by whom. My Google-fu is not as advanced as others, nor do I have print resources I can easily turn to.

It sure is a great looking knife. Congrats again!
