Got this from Ragweed Forge a few days ago, and hadn't heard too much about it on the forums. Dubbed the Okapi "Sailor's Knife" on account of the non-pointy sheepsfoot style blade, it's the smallest Okapi on Ragnar's lineup. Unembellished, without inlays or a lanyard loop, it's got a simple charm I find appealing.

It came with a very rudimentary, barely functioning edge, as expected. The blade is stamped as if it's intended to have a chisel grind. However, I went more conventional, considering the initial profile it came with. Took some elbow grease, but sharpened up quite well.

The externally mounted plated steel spring feels much more solid than I expected. The blade snaps at the half and full open positions with authority. And the wooden handle is quite pretty. Don't know what kind it is, looks like some kind of mahogany but seems harder and denser, more like rosewood.

I like this knife. Simple, functional, small, but not too small (about 3/4" longer than a Victorinox Tinker, both closed). I like the straight edge. Well on it's way to a nice patina, after using it to cut some tomato and onions last night. The price is right, don't know of any other sources than Ragweed Forge. Nobody else seems to carry it. Not even listed on Okapi's website. I'm curious to find how it holds out over the long haul. But it's satisfied my EDC urge for the last week. Not bad.

Thats a good looking knife. You did a good job sharpening the blade! Its hard to beat a straight edge for cutting performance. Ragnar has some great knives on his website at reasonable prices. Going to order one sometime this summer. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm… That’s actually a pretty cool little knife. The wood handle looks a lot better than I would have expected. Thanks for the pics! :)

I like the nice, even edge you put on the blade. Is that a big chip out of the edge though - towards the base of the blade?

It's interesting how the spring is completely outside of the handle. I don’t know if I’ve seen many other knives with that design.

No. It's a notch ground out of the blade, presumably from the factory. Maybe it was a added "feature" for a chipped blade? ;)

Actually, this design goes way back in folders. I have seen it on some shepards knives and other folders from the mid-1600's. May be older than that.

I have an Okapi, and they are very good knives once you get an edge on them.

I have an Okapi,the inlaid one,not the Sailor's one,the steel is 1095 and takes a razor edge.:D

Doug:)
