1999 Kawasaki Drifter, replica of the 1947 Indian Chief
Less than 1/2 mile on the odo from being pushed around the showroom floor!

I hate waiting, I feel like I gotta pee!

Hey Mad Hungarian,
I'm thinking we would hook up and ride up to see Ashes and see how she's doing...
I'm also gonna raid her shop cause I could use a good quality butcher block.
It's supposed to hit 60 here today, and I might go for a ride on the Nighthawk if the fog lets up.

If you don't mind 2 questions, CC's? and $$?

Sharp, before they went Chrome. I love that color also.

WOW!  ANymore left :D ? Thats one sweet ride and deal. I love that bike. I just dont like the two up setup. I wanted one with a solo seat and add a side car later.

Paul

Well, since it's NOS and a bit rare, it's costing me a bit more...

Riding a bike with a sidecar is an entirely different animal.
I've got a Velorex sidecar which I tried to mate to my Nighthawk that didn't take so well. Get a bike designed for a sidecar with a sidecar designed for that particular bike...

google "chaing jiang motorcycle" or "Ural motorcycle"

I've allready done my home work on the side car issue. WOuldn't be just slapping it on would be going through an exeprienced sidecar dealer when I do.

I've heard the horror stories of miss matched, inappropriate bikes etc. The Ural looks cool till you look at performance etc.

I 've got some links somwhere to so higly recommended guys from some other forums.

You think NOS 1500 Drifter between 4-6K is costing more? More than what I think thats a great price.

I envy ya'

Paul

Actually the price was for a used, not NOS with about 10,000 miles on it.

Still a good deal, considering I paid $2,000 fo a 1984 Yamaha with 50,000 miles on it.

Previously, my target bike was that ural just posted... till this opportunity came my way...
My NOS drifter is coming to me at just under nine grand. Then, since it's from a dealer, taxes ect.

Here's a Chang Jiang I wanted to buy but importation was a beetch to do.
The Chang Jiang is more close to the 1938 BMW motorcycles with many parts swappable with the antique German bikes. There are a few dealers in the US but none offer the replica...
The following are all China made Changs

buying a used vehicle is very risky if one does not know the history of said vehicle or is not a competent mechanic...
I'll pay the extra three grand for a new one cause I can't tell an engine carburator from a ham and cheese on rye...

Having been a mechanic for 30+ years MM I'll tell ya how ya can tell the difference, the ham and cheese on rye taste better than the carburator, also the sandwich usually has no bolt holes in it. :D

Oh, how I would love a BMW R1200C...and for kicks throw in a sidecar.

Not to mess with your purchase...but in my younger years (not oo long ago) I went to the cycle world bike show in cleveland. I hopped on a similar bike in the kawasaki stand and started wheeling towards the harley booth. I only got a few inches before a rep came up to me and asked what I was doing. I told him harley misplaced one of their bikes and wanted it back...he didn't like that.

Oh well, I was a punk interested in 2 strokes...congrats on your purchase, you have to tell us how she rides.

You haven't seen my wife's cooking...
In her case, the carburator tastes better, and the sandwich does have bolt holes...

So I gotta ask, what do y'all know about the relative reliability of those Urals? The design and simplicity really appeal to me. I was also wondering if the sidecar can be removed for solo travel then replaced later on. That'd make checking fence lines and similar things much easier and quicker, since there's not always enough for two people to walk abreast through the trees.
Give me your opinions, if you've got any about this particular bike.

Thanks.

James
