There were protests when they closed the original Kresge in Ann Arbor (Go Blue). I think there was a big Art Deco building that still said Kresge on it next to my law school in Lansing.

Might be. After enlarging the visible tang area it looks like the top line ends with "DS".

The shell construction made me "think" Imperial or Colonial. I know both made literally several tons of shell knives with their name, and as advertizing/contract knives.

Found the same knife with a Google search and it has a Richards Sheffield tang stamp. Good call.
