Had a young girl named Amy call me a couple weeks ago wanting to know if I could make her a Damascus knife so she could give it to her boyfriend thats in the service for Christmas. Seems he's coming home for Christmas and will then be deployed to Irag in Jan 04 . Not thinking about anything but the orders I already had committed to getting done for this years Christmas I told her that I was booked and didn't think I'd be able to get another knife done in time. Well after thinking about this for several days and restless nights, knowing that she could have gotten him anything for Christmas but wanted a custom Damascus knife made by me I have changed my mind. Not only did I go ahead and make the knife, I've also decided to donate it to her and her boyfriend as a goodwill gesture for Christmas this year.
Specs are. 6.5" Blade 11 1/4" overall 1/4 thick at the guard
Damascus Blade- 15N20 & 1084
Handle- 32 pieces, Mammoth Ivory, Buffalo,Sandbar Stag, Copper,Brass,NS, white, black, NS spacers.
Nickle Silver guard and pommel

Maybe I can sleep again now. I'll post a picture of the finished blade as soon as it's etched.

Thanks for looking.

Well done!

Dang Ron, that is an awesome knife! Seen many like it but there is just something that makes yours special. Nice of you to contribute to our peace movement as well! That stupid conscience sure can get in the way huh. ;)

Uh, by the way, I'm going to join the military and am looking for a Bowie, Damascus made from a meteorite, Ivory handle, gold bolsters and spacers. Any suggestions? :p

he's going to be one proud soldier! RON! you do your etch after the knife is assembled?

Beutifull! Cant' wait to see the pattern, the handle is outstanding, and a great combination of materials. Only problem is that's one thats to pretty to use!:D

I've done good for one of our boys. You should sleep better, you've earned it.

Nice knife. The kind of thing he'll look at over and over sitting in the desert, remembering home and his girl.

Now I know there is a Santa! His real name is Ron. I knew it! Beautiful work, and beautiful gesture,Ron! I hope the little gal gave you a hug!

You are a good man, Ron. Beautiful knife. Lucky guy, Christmas should be wonderful for him this year!

Ron, That's a beauty of a knife and a very generous & magnanimous act on your part. I like the clean simplicity of the design.

While I don't generally care for handles with so many components and much visual activity to them (K.I.S.S. is how I usually like handles), your choice to build this handle with basically just two colors (shades of black & ivory) tones it down so that I really like the effect you've achieved. Nice balance visually. :D

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. Makes a guy feel good inside.
I do etch the blade after I'm about done with the knife. Just cover everything that you don't want etched with finger nail polish. I've never had any problems doing them this way.
