New Opinel #6 frame is commin with a new slip joint kinda lock, new patent.

To bad with the rounded tip, but Im excited and ordered one.

Been a long time with out changes and Im not the biggest fan of the vibro lock thing so this looks refreshing.

Opinel says it is a new type of slip joint mechanism. I’m curious to try one, but it is a shame about the rounded tip. Looks like it would be fairly easy to drop the tip to get back to a point.

The advertisement and what you said don't match up. I don't buy Opinel, I guess that explains my lack of an ability to translate your post.

I don't know who makes the greatest budget knife out there: Mora or Opinel.

Your ad, er post; doesn't clear it up.

Clearly this new Opinel has been designed with restrictive knife laws in mind, they are thinking the rounded tip and slipjoint will be judged less aggressive by the LEO agent controlling you 😅

Yeah !
See how thin that blade is !
And we see alllllll kinds if broken Openels don''t we ?
NOT
I wish the rest of the knife world would get a little more brave and thin thier blades out !

Give me the choice of paying more for the thinner blade ; I'll pay it EVERY TIME !

Here it is after some filing n sanding in the right(and wrong) places. Put a tip on it and my own edge. Opinel blades are the most fun and easy to sharpen, love that thin full convex.

The slip joint approach for the pivot works nice, hope they do this with more models.

Nice grain on the olive as well!

Nice work! How's the mechanism? Is it pretty stiff?

I think I'll get another old style #6 while I still can. I just don't like the point on the new model and I'm not handy with tools any longer.

Is Opinel making this style of knife in other models now? I'm seeing some mentions on the 'net about a #8 Garden knife with this slip joint lock. Amazon has some "Degree" models listed, but the pictures shown are the #2-#5 Carbon models with the lock.

For the uses I see with a knife like this, I tend to favor a good slip joint for general use and convenience. In something larger, like a standard #8, I tend to think the lock has more merit. A stainless #8 "Garden" model, though, sure would be handy as a slip-joint outside of the EU region with their restrictive pocketknife laws.

I'd like to try that rounded tip for opening packages. Looks like it would work well.
