New or used? Which do you tend to buy?

A lot of us don't have the disposable income to drop $400 + on a brand new Sebbie, or Dozier. I have to save a long time to buy higher end knives,(and because of this my other hobbies suffer, drinking, collecting rare art, and brain surgery:D ) so when the opportunity comes up to buy used knives at bargain prices I jump at the chance to get knives that I don't have.

Still I know people who won't buy anything unless it's brand new and they are the first owners.

The question I have for you all is your collection mostly made up of new or used knives?

75% of mine are used, how about yours?

I don't have permission to vote on the poll, but the majority of my knives I have bought new...but the majority of my very nice (expensive) knives were "pre-owned". ;)

About 90% of my collection is new but of late I've been doing some trades which has my collection starting to see some used stuff.

I buy only new knives, the only exception was 5/16 thick Busse Steel Heart, which was sent to refurbishing anyway.
However I've used most of my knives at least once, so now they're used :D

Pre-owned. I'm usually too broke to buy the knives I want so I end up trading for them.

My using knives were mostly purchased new. My collection is military knives from the last 100 years or so. My knives from before the Vietnam war are second hand, most of the Vietnam era blades I purchased new.

I have only made one trade and been given three used knives, the rest of my collection is new.

For the most part the knives I get now are customs and I like my customs to be made for me. I also like interacting with the maker.

If it was a production knife that I planned to use and it was in good shape, I would have no problem with a used knife.

lately I've been getting pre-owned knives... nib, but still pre-owned.

I have another trade enroute to me... bfc hawk, and it's the 4th trade from the same set(trade, and then trade that off again)

I am mostly a user not a saver so used isn't a problem. I will buy new when I have the funds but am always looking for a good trade or purchase of a used knife.

Every single knife I've bought was brand new. The only 'pre-owned' knife I've ever bought was a Sebbie that sat in a safe for 7 years before I got her if that counts.

More "used" than "new" for me. The funny part is, I normally (and for purposed of this poll) consider a knife I purchased NIB from an individual as being "used" but consider a knife I received as a gift as "new". Yet when I think about it, it's really kind of silly considering the only real difference is that one was paid for and one was not. Have a hunch I'm not alone in using that logic though. Anyone else here do it that way?

I buy mostly used knives. I usually buy all of my knives on the forum, you can get some really good deals in the For Sale section.

In line with my user name here I'm tighter than
bark on a tree with my meager income (retired) so
I buy 95% of everything I use /own in the
"pre-owned" market. I don't give a darn about
anything but function & fitness for the job in all
that I buy.

Besides.....I get 99% of the use for often less
than 50% of new price. :D :D :D

Life is sooooo good:cool:

Interesting question.

If a knife is less that about $100, I usually will by new.

If a knife is $100 or more, I would and have looked for used. I have picked up many higher end spydies that way.

Sebbies are great to buy used, because unless it's really really messed up, it's essentially still new, juist with non perfect cosmetics.
