Come on guys! I would really appreciate some feedback on the design... let me know where I should take the knife now.

I love it!! Round off the butt and send me one with a 3.4 inch blade! ;)

I like it so far, but that pointed end cannot be comfortable in the palm of your hand, can it?

well, it fits perfect in my hand... none of the points touch the palm of my hand with any kind of discomfort, and the pointed edge of the handle is beveled. It could damage a coconut, but it won't cause any self-inflicted damage.

Where did you get that file? Ive been looking for one to do some work on myself?

Tanto style blades aren't really my thing but that looks to be well done. I would suggest some sort of synthetic material for the handle. Micarta or G10. If you don't like those maybe a paracord wrap?

I like natural materials but to me that knife looks like it wants black micarta.

I assume it's heat treated? If not you'll need to do that before you go any farther.

Make sure you drill whatever holes in the handle you will need before heat treating it.

I would go for the black micarta handle with stainless bolts. What does the other side look like?

it's a chisel grind. the other side is flat. I am thinking that black micarta is the way to go... only problem is that i have grooves on the handle, and i don't want to remove them.

I like it just the way it is:thumbup:..very original design & doesn't look like an amateur job to me;)

Good work! Keep the grooves!

I think it would be better to wrap the handle, those files are hard and you will have a tough time drilling it.

I think that is what I am going to do richard. The thing is at around 63 RC. It just shreds up any bit I put to it. I could get through it with some good carbide bits, but it is too much work unless I anneal the whole thing.
