I just started making knives in my spare time out of files and bits of this and that around the shop. Im looking for likeminded folks to share tips and compare work with. maybe forming a club of some sort. I am interested in building a tempering furnace in the near future and setting up a more proper shop. i don't have much money but what i lack in funds, i make up for in creativity and ingenuity. Wingnuts and dirtbags welcome!
Below are a few pics of what i have been working on of late.

You'll get more help in the Shoptalk forums where most of the makers hang out. Dan Graves is in your neck of the woods but not sure if he takes many people into his shop. A heat treating forge or a tempering forge? There's a difference, recommend you read all the stickies in the Shoptalk section so you can ask educated questions. Spend the money on some real knifemaking steel from Aldo Bruno, njsteelbaron is his site. The price of steel in a mono-steel knife is the cheapest part of a knife cost unless you're using some super stainless. It'll help people assist your heat treat and tempering questions if you have a known steel. Good luck.

I agree w/ Will, you will get more hits in shoptalk.
Mike Sanders is in your area, he's in Ponchatoula.
Dan Graves is in Shreveport, too far away.
