Howdy,
I'm looking into a new pack, want it for woodsbumming, hunting...maybe one or 2 night camping trips. Im looking to spend under 150$ and prefer closer to 100$

This isn't really a thread asking about packs as far as models or reviews...I just have a lil question about sizing.

i'm 6'6''-7'' with a longish torso, ~27'' from base of neck to waistband and I was hoping someone else on here may have some suggestions about packs that would be a good fit. Most packs I've used the waist belt hits me about where a sternum belt should be. I live in the backwoods so it's near impossible to try any on, will have to mail-order.

I like the Maxpedition Condor II but many reviews state its not suited for a long torso. So would really like any feedback on that model.

TY in advance.

p.s. I'm also...well, "healthy" sized. LOL so thats another consideration. Wear 3X Tall tops and 40'' pants

I'm only 5'6" and the waist strap on the condor 2 rides a little high on me, so I would go ahead and rule that one out if I were you. Other than that I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Haven't tried many others myself.

I'm 6'4" and in the same boat, looking for something. A local store has a couple of the 5.11 and Maxpedition packs and I tried a few. Certainly the Condor is not what either of us are looking for. Unless I can find something better I think I will be going for one of the 5.11 Rush series, either the 12 or more likely the 24 which seemed like a good fit and decent length.

go for an osprey pack in size large or a similar backpacking type backpacks. they are adjustable for different torso lengths. the 2011 models are now in clearance/sale from stores like campmor and rei but i think the best deals can only be found in stores though. poke around those websites and see if you can snag one at a decent price.

the maxpedition/condor/5.11 type backpacks are tactical lookalikes that are trying to cash-in on the molle craze. their torso length/where the waist belt actually ends up (near my belly button and i'm only 5'9") shows you easily they're useless for any real load bearing. for a true military-style backpack that actually has well-designed frame and features, kifaru/mystery ranch/eberlestock/etc. are the brands to look for but it's easily 5x what you're looking to spend though. there are some good deals to be found there too but you'd have to man the for-sale forums 24/7.

I would second the recommendation for Ospery. Kelty also makes some good packs that are not terribly priced, or at least they were good last I checked. My Kelty has been in use for going on six or so years now.

Lots to look at. I may have to take a roadtrip to civilization, find a store that carrys a good selection so i can try them out. Thanks for all the input.

With a 27" measurement I think you're out of luck from major manufacturers. You might look at the cottage industry to get something custom. I found a couple places that might be able to help you out.

Fair warning: Expensive. These are all meant to be lightweight solutions though, so maybe there is another custom builder making packs with more mainstream materials.
