New Paltz NY Area

My wife's company is going to a place called Mohonk Mt. House in New Paltz NY (Ulster County) and I'm tagging along. From what I can tell, Mohonk is some huge old expensive resort and I'll probably be bored by the second day. On the plus side, they serve three meals a day included in the price :)

Is there anything in the area worth taking in? Apparently there is plenty of hiking, boating and golf right on premises, so I'm more looking for historic sites, museums, or cool stores.
 
The Mountain House has some awesome hiking trails (I haven't been there personally though. They could be crowded though. There are other large preserves in the area that are worth hiking, too. Also that area is the rock climbing capital of the east. When are you going? You're right near where Schrade used to be and where Canal Street Cutlery has set up shop - but I found out recently that they're not open to the public. E-mail me and I can help you out a bit.
 
Definitely check out the Shawnagunks - lots of crazy rock climbing will be going on.
 
The Devil's Path is near New Paltz. If you've got a day to kill take the ski lift to the top and hike down.
 
Googled Shawangunk and found this article. Looks like a fantastic place.

Looks like you live down the road from my little brothers old place in Bristol. Pretty country up there.
