I needed to make a sheath for the CGFBM, figured I may as well order a little extra of the same color kydex and make matching pants for a few others.

They came out pretty good, nowhere near the fit and finish of Dave Browns, but after the Holidays its nice to save a little money.
The hole without an eyelet was a mistake, the tension was too tight, so I left it as is. You can see I ground the kydex further than usual near the coil, which allows me to get an even better grip unsheathing it, as well as leaves the first rivet exposed so I can still use a safety lanyard with the sheath. Big thanks to Tinfoil hat timmy for the hockey tape tip,, super grippy 👍🏻

Before I made these I was testing out how I would want to carry such a big blade in the woods, as I found my (incredibly awesome Patriot Leather) sheath for the 1111 would sometimes knock around my legs walking, and would get caught up when I was sitting or crouching. Aside from that I found that any sheath that rode up higher on my hip was just awkward to unsheathe, very unnatural to pull your elbow back that far and then angle your wrist.

Enter the UKE (universal kydex extension) from Chiral Golem here on Bladeforums.
He was very quick to communicate, shipped fast, and I could not be happier with how easy and intuitive this is,, and for less than $20 bucks shipped!

I ordered it primarily so I could wear my mistress on my left side, and cross draw with my right hand, so set it up first that way.
Its incredibly comfortable to walk and draw with the knife that way, you honestly forget its there. No knocking in your leg or getting in the way at all.

The great thing about this, is that I can quickly switch over to any other sheath I have (as long as the eyelets are 3/4” apart).
Here with the Infidu on my right side, lower on the hip so very easy to draw.

Here I switched over to a scout carry on the AMS, but would also work on my right hip or even in front this way.

I’m going to add another eyelet so I can carry the AMS on my right, as the UKE is attached incorrectly here because I specified a left side UKE (although it really works just fine), but gives you an idea of how easy it is to switch to the AB-3 clip that comes with it, instead of the leather belt loop.

Just a quick video to show how it is when you are moving around, crouching, sitting,, just ideal.

Easily one of the best $20 I’ve ever sent, anyone who uses kydex sheaths (I’m 99% sure all of BuyBrowns sheathes work with it) should immediately grab one of these, well done Chiral.
For more information on it, here is his thread about it.

Those sheaths look a heck of a lot better than I could do. Good work.
I like the UKE. I remember seeing that quite a while back but I forgot about it. Great to see it in use and hear your thoughts. I think I may have to pick one of those up sometime soon.

Nice!

Looks like you have all your bases covered...

You can always put a hex or phillips fastener in that empty hole, it it bothers you or you decide to customize the tension a bit more...dial it in and use some blue locktite on it

What folder you carrying? a ZT, perhaps?

I like that idea,, kind of like the lock on the Esee sheath 👍🏻
It's a Grayman Dua, like a strider and a sebenza had a baby :D

Looking great Rob, sheaths are fun to make. I just made one for a bg trail scalpel. We will have to talk tricks at the next INFI in the woods

Hey, thanks for the plug!  Really nice sheaths to, way better than what I've ever done.

A couple quick things about the UKE
1) you won't need to modify that AMS sheath at all. There's a skinny 'bridge' piece of kydex included with the kit, this can be mounted directly to the UKE and allow you to mount it to sheaths with spacing as far apart as 2" o.c. I haven't updated my UKE sale-thread with the new bridge design or a decent explanation of how it works, but here is a link to my most recent thread with basic instructions using an ESEE sheath with spacing 1.5" o.c.

2) I noticed that you put the rubber washers on the outside - I tend to place them between the UKE and sheath. They act as spacers as well as tension-hold for varying the angle-setting on the UKE. The UKE has those angled slots so that you can adjust the attachment-angle for various knives, like how the Muk handle is angled differently from an AMS or really most other Busse (and other brand) knives. That said, it's your kit and you should feel free to mount/modify it at whim! Whatever improves your carry

Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

That's pretty sweet. Main reason I don't have any kydex sheaths is that I don't like the handles of my knives to stick up past my belt line. Problem solved.

Awesome! Thanks a lot Chiral, it's a killer piece of equipment, well done👍🏻
I can't get over how comfortable it is to carry a big blade that way.

Very, very nice - love the taco style and your carrying possibilities are such good ideas. Tacos so much more streamlined for medium-larger blades. Really nice stuff, and congrats on your craftsmanship and innovation!

I want to eventually get scout rigs and/or angled cross draws for everything I use up to a NMSFNO, cross draws for the smaller blades up to SFNO, NOe possibly. I don't like anything hanging down my side as a rule of thumb, larger blades will have to dangle a bit.

Glad the hockey tape worked for you. It's such an inexpensive fix I d k why more people don't try it. Anyhow. .
Nice sheaths! I tried and failed at kydex bending a couple years ago and never really looked back. Leather and hicago screws is where it's at for me.

It's awesome,, it gets grippier when it gets a little wet.
I'm a big fan for sure

Well, either were BOTH crazy (entirely possible), or IM NOT (very much less feasible, yet still a possibility, as miniscule as it may be... )

Great thread Rick! I really appreciate the pics and video; I have a UKE but I have never tried to set it up to cross draw with the angle as you have it, but you have inspired me to give it a try with my NMFBM and Sasquatch.

My pleasure brother, thanks for the kind words.
Give that carry style a try and I doubt you'll do it any other way after

Super cool rig!

Great job on the kydex and the UKE is an awesome idea!

Both are brilliantly executed!

Let's Drink!

:D

Wow, compliments from the Boss Hog??? Thank you, sir! Glad you like the design
