Hello All,

I just got my hands on a paramilitary2 and I have some concerns. Let me say that I got the CF s90v sprint before I got this one.
1) The lock on the s30v one that I just got engages much later than the s90v one. I would say the s30v lock engages at the halfway point. It is brand new and I'm wondering where everyones lock engages... is halfway acceptable?
2) I was under the impression that the para2 had the bushing system that the manix2 has. I can tighten my manix2s pivot all the way and it's still smooth as silk. When I tighten my s30v para2 all the way the blade gets very tight and barely moves. Is this normal?

Thanks guys.

1. Lockup sounds fine to me.

2. Something is wrong with the pivot if thats the case. Did you take the knife apart? If so maybe the washers got pinched when you put it back together.

Did not take the knife apart...

Congrats on the new knife. It's a fine cutting tool that will serve you well for many years.

1) The Compression Lock on your knife is engaged perfectly. If it was at 10% that would be for concern. Keep in mind, this is NOT a frame lock or a liner lock.
2) You are correct. There is a bushing instead of a pivot barrel, makes for much smoother action. I would recommend NOT disassembling the knife though. I would recommend adding some Loc-tite to the screws and tighten each one to the "sweet spot". Let it dry overnight.

I called Spyderco CS and they said it shouldn't be like that and to send it in. (The pivot I mean)
I forgot to ask what the turn around time is though....
Thanks for the input guys.

Spyderco makes great knives but their tolerances aren't to that of a Sebenza. If a blade that is on the thick end of acceptable tolerances gets matched with a bushing that is on the narrow side, then it can get tight when the pivot is tightened up. If it was vise versa then it could have slight horizontal play that can't be tightened out. In theory neither is supposed to happen but with an allowable manufacturing tolerance range then both extremes are a possibility. If it bothers you that much send it in but most likely there is nothing seriously wrong with your knife and the washers are just putting some tension on the blade like the average knife minus bushing. I would do like Rev mentioned and put a healthy dose of loc tite on both pivot screws or put some teflon tape on each which doesn't require it to dry, and enjoy your new knife.

I have several spydero knives with their new pivot bushing system. if i tighten them all the way down the blade won't move. it just needs to be not even a quarter turn from all the way down.
