Bought this brand new legit paramilitary 2 from a reputable dealer on eBay. Got home from work opened it up and this is what is sounds like. I'm not able to flick the blade open at all. Spoke with dealer tonight and he will fix the issue tomorrow with me. Any ideas what might be causing the binding?
Also any idea why I can't upload videos or pictures through the Tapatalk app?

Sounds like metal on metal. Take it apart to check the pivot area. If you don't wanna take it apart get some compressed air in there might knock whatever is jammed in there

I see when you push the lock over the blade drops so the only thing left that can be making that noise is the detent ball or lack of a detent ball. Is it there? The ball coming out has happened to others. If the ball is in place, have you tried lubing it? Just might be stuck.

Yeah, I'm going to go with missing detent ball as well... Ill see if I can get a pic of mine and post it here in one minute.

I can certainly see why it would be easily missed. If you're lockbar touches the blade while the blade is only half opened then that is a givaway. Do not take your knife apart. Just send it in to Spyderco or the dealer. What doesn't make sense is why there is still a bias towards being closed (which would mean there is a ball still there)..... Huh, maybe the mystery isn't solved yet.... Possibly the ball is marred. Try cleaning it like others have suggested, maybe something it lodged in there.

So it definitely looks like the detent ball is in there. So I have no clue to why it is binding up.

Run it under a warm tap with some mild soap, blow it out with compressed air and lube it up. If the problem persists, send it back for a replacement. IMO

That should not effect anything warranty related if I need to send it in correct? Also what is the best type of lube? Would froglube or just regular CLP work?

Thanks

Personally I'd put a drop of oil on the pivot and detent ball and call it a day. If it doesn't loosen up after that, send it back. No reason to go any further than that and compromise your return.
But, it's your money.

Cleaning it as described above will not void the warranty.

Do NOT take it apart.

Any lube will work, even plain mineral oil. FrogLube would be a good 'hi end' choice.

The blade stop pin and pivot screws both affect the pivot on Para2s, an over-tightened blade stop pin can create uneven pressure on the blade resulting in a rough pivot.

Had the exact same thing happen with that exact noise. Cleaned and lubed it and within minutes it was fine. never happened again.

It sounds like metal rubbing from open to close, have you checked to see if the bushings are there at all? With the PM2 closed you should be able to see them on both sides of the notched area on the blade? Mine came perfect with no play and smooth as silk. I only ask because when I first came here about a month ago the first thing I was told to was to avoid ebay like a syphilitic hooker (I may be paraphrasing or embellishing a little;)), or something along those lines.

I am Taiwanese, many Spyderco knives made in Taiwan and I really love Spyderco
My PM2 was like your, but I made it apart and used the TUF GLIDE, it solved!!

I got a PM2 early in the new year, smooth at first and then very gritty, took it apart checked the washers, cleaned and put it back together. fine for a day then gritty again. after a couple of days it bugged me so I took it apart again and found a clump of grit on the lock bar next to the detent ball, this was grinding on the washer during opening and closing. :) tap tap, sand sand, oil oil, smooth smooth. After a month I can't hardly look at any of my other knives, even checking exchange rates feels like some sort of cheating.

Well I took the advice from all of you and everything seems good to go now. I ran some hot water right on the pivot along with a little soap. Blew it dry with a hairdryer and applied a small amount of Breakfree clp. It's pretty damn smooth now. Just crazy how I received it working smooth then it started binding. Well I sure hope my cousin enjoys it. I bought it as a birthday present for him.

I read this thread and then that night my para started to have the same rough opening. I put a drop of oil on the pivot and noticed the screw next to the pivot screw was a little loose. I tightened it about one turn and the blade was free again. Not sure if the loose screw was causing a bind or the knife just need a little oil.
