New paths!

So after a few days of looking into the Becker BK2, I purged and bought one. Huge as hell, tougher than all get out, and it's so fun to chop down stuff with! Now these slippery handles aren't cutting it for me(no pun intended). haha! But, I am going to make me a set of wood scales or buy a set of the Ka Bar Micarta ones. I can't explain exactly how much I love this knife! I was looking for that "one" knife that I grab before I go into the woods. I have many of skinners, and other fixed blades and folders, but I didn't have a woods knife. Woodsmen need this knife! I've have made new paths on my hunting property, made a few fires, and used the factory edge for a few days. When it came to sharpening the huge blade, I decide to change the edge to a convex edge. After Richard J put one on my Westmark skinner and wearing the factory v edge pretty fast, I looked into convexing edges and i jumped at it. I got it down and this thing is a damn beast! I am definitely looking into getting more Beckers! I like the BK16 a lot!

Great to hear you're loving it! That's the exact feeling I had when I got my bk9.

Rules are rules though....we're gonna need some pictures of your new 2 in action :D

There's rules about the pics! Well it is true! Pics or it didn't happen! I will take some tomorrow! Haha! I'll shoot some of the edge tonight! I polished it up a tad before the day started yesterday, but I used it in the deconstruction of a wooden wall/tv unit!

Congrats on the new steel! But the big question is.......
What's next?!? Do you wanna go big? Think BK-9 or 5. Or do you wanna go small like the 11 or 14. I've been edc-ing my 14 for a while and it's my most used knife.
So post pics and ponder!!!

I want an EDC fixed blade. I have my Benchmade 556 for my EDC folder. Sometimes, I need the strength and reliability of a good, strong fixed blade! Hint, that's why I bought the BK2! But, I do need a EDC fixed that can be used without folks thinking I am carrying around a hatchet.

I EDC an izula II if it's worth anything. To me, (this may be heresy in this forum!!) it's the king of its weight class. The BK11 and 14 are great fixed blade edc options as well, however, many municipalities (atleast a couple cities in SC, cant really speak for other states) don't allow a concealed knife to be over 3". Since there's a lot of grey area there on what constitutes 'concealed' and pocket knives, i prefer to avoid it.

That being said. The BK11 kicks some serious ass. Plus it's got a built in bottle opener. What more could you ask for?

In GA, I believe we can have up to 5" if I am not mistaking.. I know there's some counties that allow 3" and under, and some 4" and under, but statewide I think it's 5" and under. I could be totally wrong about that. I've been looking at the Izula II and some other ESEEs. I like them, but I don't think there's a shop around that sells them. I had to drive almost an hour to test and buy my BK2. Totally worth it!

SC, much like GA, tends to be very forgiving on their knife laws as a whole, but both states have a couple more urban/affluent areas that try to enforce stricter laws than state legislature has on the books. i.e. Charleston and Greenville in SC, and i believe Atlanta and Savannah are similar for you.

Yeah. Me and larger cities don't mix. I live in a fairly small town and the cops around here know you, and you know them. It's fair living around these parts. But, what would be a good EDC fixed blade?

I'd say look into a bk11. I really really like this little guy. Some really neat threads around here showing them going through their paces. Also, the 14 is pretty slick, basically slaps the bk11 blade on a izula handle. Might not be an identical blade to the 11 but it's pretty close if i'm not mistaken.

Regardless, it wasn't my intention to drive this thread COMPLETELY off topic

Congrats on the 2, looking forward to seeing some action shots. It's next on my becker wish list, especially after seeing The Warrior's in all its tiger stripey goodness.

Haha it has gone way off topic, but of well! All in good use of a nice new knife! I'll try and take down some small trees in the backyard tomorrow! I'll take some shots of the edge tonight if I can stay awake.

Congrats on the 2. I have one, I just got it this past Xmas. And, like you, I am in love with the thing. I am really interested in a 14 for EDC. I want to get away from a folder as EDC. Up next for me and the fam is a few 11's, a few 14s, at least one 16 and fo damn sure a BK10!!!!

Hey KallumS....

Thanks for buying one of my blades......I am so glad that it seems to be working it's tail off for you......BTW I frequently edc an 11 either as a necker or just slipped in a pocket.......The 16 is definately my "go to" field carry.....I look at the 11 and an SAK Rucksack as the foundation,ie. I can do it all If I gotta with those, The 16 or a 2 makes life easier and add a 9 or a Machax and the confidence level goes up a couple of notches........

Thanks for your post and the kind words.......

Ethan
