Just got a new patriot today, first impressions are very good. Fit and finish is excellent, and it's a pretty large knife. Extremely sharp and well centered, very happy about all this. It is very hard to open, but that'll get better, no worries. Lockup is early, however I'm curious to see if it'll settle in or just keep moving across as I just had to send a commander back because the lockup was 100% in a little over a month of having it.

I know emerson fixes them but is it normal for the lockup to move that fast? It's my 3rd emerson that's done it.. I don't wave them excessively or overly hard but I do open and close them a lot to try and break them in. Any thoughts? I'm not trying to complain but it does get kind of old having to send back knives.

Anyways I'll try and get some pics up of this patriot later as it's an extremely cool design.

I think the Patriot is my all time favorite Emerson, I have 3 of them (& I've had a TON of Emerson knives).

One is the wood handle model (my everyday EDC)

one is the standard black G10 & the third is with NATH in Thailand being pimped as we speak.

Instead of opening/closing my knives 1000 times in a row for break-in I simply disassemble them as soon as I get them, clean them thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol & then reassemble with small amounts of Finish Line Extreme Fluoro grease. I put one drop of blue Loctite on the pivot threads and then tighten the pivot just until all play is removed.

That way the knives are smooth as glass & I have never had to send one in for anything.

Alright, I just tried this since you seem to know what your talking about, I disassembled and cleaned everything in the pivot with rubbing alcohol and then added some lube and reassembled. It's definitely smoother and the lockup isn't sticky. That's a pretty good way of doing things, thanks! Now I'm curious to see where the liner will settle

I too do as jmorton10 does minus the alcohol part. Works! Hopefully this one will last you without any issues! Patriots are awesome knives!

As I said here are some pics of the patriot, although there a little late I did take some
The ergos on this knife are very good and the lockup has moved a little bit but not much after about I'd say 200 openings and closings.
Overall I'm really starting to like this knife, such a cool blade shape.
Sorry for the crappy quality

Here is my Patriot done by NATH, he just finished it.

Yep I'm happy with the lockup im just curious to see where it'll settle. And man that is pretty nice, I like that alot

Ah, so that bolsterlock is yours, nice!

Yeah, I'm waiting for it to return from Thailand.

That will be my new EDC knife as soon as I get my hands on it :-)

NATH truly does amazing work, this was the first time I have used him for anything and he did just exactly what I asked him to.
