My favorite for new petes options would be the ability to see what the top 5 most requested knives are. I would also like a link to something that has more info on the blade information- like rockwell scale and such. And maybee put in the titanium as a handle choice- it would just take some extra handles to make that happen right?
Anyway what would you want to see in PCKS?

I'd like to see real pics of some completed knives so you could tell what they looked like in real life. Maybe a couple different angles.

Said it before and I'll say it again, I'd like to see the 112 offered. I just don't have any practical use for the larger 110.

Yes, the 112 is my favorite Buck folder.

I would purchase 2 or 3 immediately if offered with BG-42 blade.

Regards,
FK

I too would like to see the titanium handle offered as an option on PCKS. The 532 also.

Great suggestions gang, and good timing too. Overwhelmingly, we have been asked to offer a fixed-blade from customers and BF members. As Joe mentioned, the Vanguard and Zipper models will give use the most customizations. I'd like mine with a Damascus drop point, Nickel guards and Desert Ironwood!

The top 5 most requested knives would require some digging, but I can easily say that the most requested scales are Nickel-Silver with Finger Grooves, with (1)Asian Waterbuffalo (2) Sambar Stag Inlays, and BG-42 steel. Damascus is a close second on the blades.

Speaking of Rockwell scale, one thing I think about sometimes is if a customer wants to know the blade hardness of their individual Designer's Choice knife, we can leave a visible Rockwell test imprint on the blade (along the backbone, or near the stamp) and have Dana write the hardness number on the Certificate of Authenticity. Does this sound like a good idea? It would leave a dimple on the blade the size of a period "."

Real pics of completed knives is another great idea - better still, we can display some of the owner's pics (the ones seen on BF) on the web site. We can even post happy-customers remarks on the site but now we're getting into some serious swollen-head territory.

Nowthen. Regarding the 112's, 532's, and the ever-requested 560's with BG-42 and anything with Desert Ironwood; this much variety is a tall order for a factory with one laser pumping out about a million blades a year. On the other hand, if you want a specific knife with bead blasted 420HC and say, stag, (materials we have in stock) we can handle that.

The new site will give us the flexibility to manage and track individual requests that don't require us to fire up a supplier in New York, or stop the laser for one BG-42 Nighthawk. There will be requests that we will have to turn down, or accept with a slight modification. Believe me, we will do our best to accommodate as many as we can.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Oh man, there goes my BG42 Nighthawk!

And, I guess, a BG42 Mentor...

Just got yesterday a FG NS Water-Buffalo with Damascus blade. A really sweet knife, looks great. The damascus has a slightly rough feel which I really like, it is not as beautifully patterned as some of the fancy damascus, but feels like a really usable blade. I think I will end up ordering one with oak bolsters and damascus, and really put the steel through the paces.

Only problem was it took exactly 6 weeks to get it

I've got another on order for the last 4 weeks. Some tracking capabilities would be great. I ordered yet another in Boy Scout colors (green and gold) yesterday to appease some unrelated frustrations. I sure hope it comes before the summer camping season ends!

I like the idea of hardness testing, a little extra cool fillip.

Peace, Al

Here's a Pete's knife I got yesterday in red bone - nicer than I expected, and I expected it to be very nice! The blade fall is a little to one side and I am not sure how I feel about that - may take it up with Pete's. The option I supposed I'd like is cursive writing on the engraving. Small thing, but it would be nicer than the block print. For all I know, though, it's available and I just didn't think to ask!

yeah, I like the sound of knowing just what your knife is rated at. But I was also thinking about that as when you select the blade that you can have a link or chart with some of the good stats on that type of blade. And as for knowing the progress of your knife- maybe they could have something that would let you know if they had started on it, or if it had shipped. I dont know if that is possible or not, not knowing what process they go through to put the knives together
And to go with that, what if it said on the site what the expected wait was at that time for your knife- like if it would be two or three weeks until they started on it?

Pete,
One additional request for the custom shop.

Would you consider working on a customer's Buck Knife? I especially like the older 2-dot and 3-dot model 112 and 110, could I send one in for custom scales and refinish only? Keeping the original blade and brass frame is fine.

Regards,
FK

...But could you stop the laser for two BG-42 Nighthawks?

Seriously though, I like the idea of the individual hardness test. I would also like to see curly maple as a choice at PCKS.

On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea… so many choices… so little money…

Not the best of pictures (How do you get one without reflections? This was taken outdoors on a cloudy day)

Top to bottom "Standard" 110, Stag+BG42+NS Bolsters, Water Buffalo FG+NS+Damascus, Indigo Royalwood FG+NS+BG42.

Two 532's flanking, one with cherrywood and one in indigo royalwood.

Peace, Al

Thank you Folsom, thank you, thankyou, thank you. This is what I love to see. I'm going to print this page out. I'm especially interested in the AWB handles.(Hey, I just figured out they are my initials) Mines gonna have BG-42, but every thing else the same. Anybody else out there with pics?

Nice picture Al. After seeing the 110 with the Royalwood scales, I'm pretty sure that pushed me over the edge; that's my next one, but with a Damascus blade!
Off to rob a stagecoach to finance my little habit.

Wow! Nice pics. Doest that indago royalwood 110 realy look that bright blue in person? 'cause mine dosen't.

Maybe I should order one with finger grooves to complement the one without.

oneslowbird - you mean like this?

And yes, the indigo royalwood is that blue, though it was emphasized by the natural light. I was surprised to get the 532, which is a little duller and has a slight greenish tinge. A nice color, just not the same.
Peace, Al

Folsom, yea thats the one. I thought maybe it would be too fat, but thats looks just about right. Is it comfortable? I want to make sure cause this is going to be a user. Thanks again for the pics.

Yes, very comfortable. I have large hands (goes with being 6'7")

Collectors will probably cringe, but all my knives are users. That's what a knife is for.

I should mention the indigo royalwood 110 we got as a gift for a cub scout leader. It had the brass bolsters, no FG, and ATS-34 blade. The Royalwood looked REALLY nice with the brass bolsters. Sorry I didn't get a picture of it before giving it away!

Al
