new peanut for me

Last night as an anniversary gift, my wife gave me a Case peanut in amber bone. This is my first peanut, and probably the smallest knife I've ever handled - How do people keep from losing these! It's also my first Case. It's very pleasing to the eye and hand, and has great fit and finish, except for slightly uneven bevels (no big deal). It will be great to edc at work or anywhere where I'm in dress pants that can't handle a larger knife in the pocket. I doubt that I'll be skinning any gators, but from what folks post about them, I'm sure it will handle my modest usage.

It's a wonderful thing to have a wife who indulges your interests, even if she thinks they're a bit odd.

Your Peanut will serve you well. My wife is looking to get me a one as well, but with us being new parents and me being the sole money maker, we are at that stage in our lives where we have to live lean. So, I told her no rush, get it for me one day. Besides, I EDC the Super Tinker she's gotten me, and she also got me my beloved Leatherman Wave, so I have enough to keep me busy. LOL.
There's just something about a Peanut......

Welcome to the peanut legion Foilist!

I love my Case red bone CV. Its in my pocket everyday, it cuts through everything, it feels good.

I'm a big knife nut too, but as far as something in my pocket all day at work...its great!

I would imagine jackknife should be chiming in soon...

You are fortunate to have such a wife that gives to a knife nut a peanut. :) Peanuts are additive, just one will not do, you will find yourself getting another and another, BTW, there is not much work one will not do. Including skinning gators I hear.
Good Score,
James

One of these days I'll tell you guys how my dad rescued a car stuck in the mud with just his peanut.:)

Those stories make me want to stick my various multitools and stouter knives in a drawer and carry just my new peanut for awhile - simply to see how resourceful I can be.

Don't forget your 4-way Sears pocket screwdriver and P-38 on your keychain! It worked for dad and its been working for me, pretty much.:thumbup:

I love it when peanut threads turn into 4-way pocket screwdriver threads, jackknife!

Well, their sort of related as I see it. Both small and pocketable. Both not notable on your person till needed. Both handy as all get out to have.:D

I think you and I had a discussion a couple months ago about both our dads having one and both being machinists. :)

My P-38 lives in my mess kit and my version of the 4-way screwdriver is a Swisstech Utili-key on my key ring.

The recent SAK sentimentality thread made me want to edc just my boyhood Huntsman, and the various peanut threads make me want to edc just the peanut - I don't know what to do anymore!

I usually carry a multitool (Vic Spirit) plus a dedicated knife of some kind. Lately I've been in a mood to trim down to just one, mostly due to what I've been reading here. I'm going to try just the peanut for a week, then the Huntsman for a week, etc.

dont you think that it comes down to the bicameral brain, left side right side? the truth is a swiss army knife will do everything, it is the epitiome of utility. the peanut is viewed as a symbol of romance and nostalgia, connecting us to images of an idealized past. the peanut is more of a totem of what one wishes one could be. "like one's idealized father", an unobtainable goal but one that is difficult to let go of. The swiss army knife can be found with stag handles if one exerts himself enough, very appealing in terms of aesthetics. However it has no roots in americana, it is not american so can never really serve as an icon of the past.

Can't argue with that, and wouldn't want to, I love my SAK's.

I think you are quite right in what you have said, it's nostalgia to some extent, but that's not to say traditional patterns aren't just as useful as they always were.

What held true then holds true now.

Carry both

I tried, and I can't bring myself to carry just one. I have to have both the multitool and a knife. I always have this quasi-phobia that I'll need my multitool and won't have it. Anywhere but here that would be considered strange!
