These are just some crummy shop pix but, I'm finishing this one up today. John Cohea and I have been discussing doing a big period-style Bowie so I put this one together and will be sending it out to him tomorrow to work his magic. After that, she's going to Mr. Ward for a real nice pix.

This Coffin Bowie is has about a 9" long blade of multi-quenched W2 (there are at least 4 hamon lines in the blade) with acid soaked/forged finish flats(all the way back on the full tang as well). The off-set bolsters are jail-bar wrought iron. The handle scales are Weathered Barn Oak with copper liners and pins and textures stainless steel handle bolts. The edges of the barn oak and wrought iron are scalloped.

Really nice vintage looking piece J. I dig those scallops and forged flats. Can you post a quick pic of the copper liners.....I'm a sucker for copper!

I really like it. Who else would have thought of using jail bars for bolsters? I look forward to seeing what John does with the sheath.

There has to an interesting story about the aquisition of Jail Bar wrought iron. Oh yea very nice knife.

I'll like her even more after that copper patina's up a bit.

Thanks for the better pictures and the shots of the copper liners. The older she gets, the better she'll look!

That is really Sweeeet! Love the scalloped edges, it gives it so much depth. Gorgeous hamon lines. Can't wait to see what John does for it.

Yes , I like it too, it would be a great everything carry, an especially for Rendevous, wow! Thanks for showing.

Sweet!

Love that look. Never thought of Copper liners before. The distressed/recycled oak looks tops too.

Really nice vintage project. And the copper spacers are a special touch.
My compliments!

Here are a couple pix of the completed project by Mr. Ward himself...
