Well, the brown truck came. 3 1/2 weeks this time (much better). I sat on the front porch and opened the box with my 186. Let me tell you the truth now, when I first glanced at the Koa wood handles I was disappointed. They looked very dull and boring(like dark stained pine). Then, as I was doing the fit and finish inspection I noticed something really strange. If you tilt the knife into the light (Larry, I was wondering what you were talking about), you get the most vivid tiger stripe I've ever seen. Definately one wierd wood. I'm not disappointed anymore. Now, back to the fit and finish. I checked my card and saw that Dana made my knife. Cool. I checked the edge and it was almost perfect.(just a scrillionth of an inch uneven , nothing to worry about). I next checked for bladeplay. None, and get this, none even with the lock depressed. I've never had that before. Great job with assembly. Great new script style engraving. Finger grooves(my first) are very comfortable. Now for my beefs (I'm allowed a couple right). The bolster with the engraving was not polished on the side next to the spring and the the radius leading to the flat. Also the knife was completely without lube.(easily fixed). All in all, a great knife. I really wanted to post pictures but I can't seem to get one with the grain exposed. Maybe I'll get one soon. Later, Alex

How did I not know PCKS is doing Odysseys now? Link? Can you post pics of yours!?

They aren't doing custom 186s. He opened the box that had his custom 110 with his 186.

OR ... he used his 186 to cut open the box that contained his new 110. NOW, I get it! :o

I just received a Koa handled 110 also, and my impressions were similar. At first it looked like a rich colored, but fairly plain wood, until following your suggestions, I moved it around, and watched the color play.

I'm intrigued that it is a much more open finish than other wooden scales I've gotten from Buck. What is the best way to treat it, do you think? A little oil of some sort? I'm afraid mineral oil might dull the appearance - linseed oil, maybe? I expect, like all my 110's it will rotate around for occasional carry, and I want to keep it looking good.

Sorry for no link. I'm so computer retarded. I could sure use some help with this if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks Alex

Alex, toward the top of this page click on the "FAQ" button just below "Remember 9-11-2001". This will take you to the FAQ index page. Go to the last heading on the page "Reading and Posting Messages" and click on the first item "Are there any special codes/tags I can use to format my posts and messages?". This will put you on page 3 and the first item is the item entitled above. Go to the last line and click where it says "click here". This will take you to a page headed "What is vB code" that will show you how to enter your link and also many other neat tricks.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Wray!!! Finally Koa pictures. Many thanks also to my son Andrew for assembling this album. I wouldn't have a clue. :p

I had my 110 made last year with a plain BG-42 blade, sambar hadles, and nickel bolsters. It is awesome! I bought it for hunting and used it for the first time this year. I am truely impressed by this knife!

110, stag, nickle silver, BG-42? Now thats a knife! I'm glad you had the chance to use it and even happier that you were happy with it!
Take care,
